Vs. Heatran is the eighteenth episode of the third season of Pokémon Tales: Plasma. It aired 4/12/20.
Story[]
Ian rides Hydriegon through the skies of Unova, Mienfoo saddled in his lap. Mienfoo keeps its eyes closed in fright as they soar forward.
Ian: You sure you don’t want to be in the Pokéball for this?!
Mienfoo: (Screaming) Mien!
Ian: I suppose after never being in one it is uncomfortable!
Hydreigon descends and lands in Lentimas Town, as Ian returns Hydreigon and heading to the Pokémon Center. He gives Hydreigon to Nurse Joy to rest.
Nurse Joy: I’ll let you know when your Pokémon is healed!
Ian: Thank you.
Ian heads over to a corner, where a tour guide sits at a stand.
Tour Guide: Hello! Welcome to Lentimas Town! Are you interested in going for a tour of Reversal Mountain?
Ian: I am heading there. On route to Humilau City. I was looking for some information about it.
Tour Guide: Of course! Reversal Mountain is a dormant volcano that consistently provides a warm temperature for the area. The weather stays consistent here year long, unaffected by the weather systems that normally affect the region. The terrain around it can be treacherous to climb so you should stay on the main trail.
Ian: Thank you.
Voice: Mind if I tag along?
Ian turns to the corner, seeing a teenage boy with brown hair and green eyes sitting against the wall. He wears a black shirt with a green jacket with the number “10” on it. On his wrist is a slimmed down white watch with a black interface.
Ian: Who are you?
Ben: Ben. Just got here by a cargo plane. Real uncomfortable. Anyway, I was planning on going up the mountain myself, but it’s always more fun when traveling with someone else. Mind if we share each other’s company?
Ian stares Ben down, Mienfoo tugging on his jacket. Mienfoo nods, as Ian sighs.
Ian: Fine. Keep up or you’ll fall behind. Name’s Ian.
End Scene
Ian, Mienfoo and Ben travel up the rocky terrain of Reversal Mountain, Ian’s face scrunched from irritation.
Ben: Then following a battle with Malva I went onto the Battle Chateau! The Chatelaines were all as powerful as Malva in some instances, so when I battled them it was a real thrill!
Ian: I regret traveling with you now.
Mienfoo: Mien mien.
Ben: Oh come on! Surely you want to talk about your various exploits! I’m sure we’ve both have had amazing explorations! Kalos is probably still my favorite out of everywhere I’ve been. Come on. Where’s your favorite place?
Ian walks faster, as Mienfoo quick walks after him. Ben runs to get in front of Ian.
Ben: Hey how about a battle! I wanna get a taste of your strength!
Ian groans, as he nods. Ben does a fist pump as he runs to make room.
Ben: It’s battle time! Water Hazard I choose you!
Ben throws his Dive Ball, choosing Water Hazard the Crawdaunt.
Water Hazard: Crawdaunt!
Ian: Mienfoo.
Mienfoo: Mien.
Mienfoo walks forward, taking a battle stance.
Ian: Hi Jump Kick.
Ben: Water Hazard, Iron Defense to Crabhammer!
Mienfoo charges and swings a glowing orange knee at Water Hazard. It crosses its arms as its body shines like iron. Hi Jump Kick hits, Water Hazard standing its ground. Water Hazard’s pincher is surrounded in water energy as it swings it and strikes Mienfoo. Mienfoo flies back and flips, landing on its feet.
Ian: Swift!
Ben: Water Pulse!
Mienfoo spins and fires golden energy stars. Water Hazard opens its pincers and fires streams of water, blocking the attack.
Ben: Whoo! Nice! Now Water Hazard use Crabhammer!
Ian: Hi Jump Kick!
Crabhammer and Hi Jump Kick collide, Water Hazard skidding back from the force. Water Hazard charges again, as Mienfoo’s responds to the mountain. Mienfoo runs and dodges the Crabhammer, leaving the field and heading up the mountain.
Ben: Hey! We’re in the middle of a battle here!
Ian: Something must be up.
Ian opens a Pokéball, choosing Hydreigon. Ian hops on its back as it rises up to follow after Mienfoo. Ben watches with disappointment.
Ben: Oh man. So much for testing a champion. I suppose I should call upon someone to fly after him.
Ben holds out his arm, as he begins using the interface of his watch. The ground shakes as an Excadrill Digs out of the wall, shouting.
Excadrill: Exca DRILL!
Ben: Huh. I suppose I could just catch a new one. Okay Water Hazard! Fire Water Pulse!
Water Hazard fires streams of water at Excadrill, it detecting the attack. It abducts its claws out as they spin with Rapid Spin, blocking the attack. Excadrill turns and faces Water Hazard, the two ready to battle.
Hydreigon floats up with Ian and Mienfoo as they arrive a platform section of Reversal Mountain. Ian hops off as he follows Mienfoo, it hiding behind a boulder. Ian and Hydreigon duck down with it, them seeing the Plasma pirate grunts.
Ian: Plasma. That means there’s something of value to Colress here. Or for an experiment. We need to sneak around these guys and—
Hydreigon: (Roaring) HYDREIGON!
Hydreigon rises up, garnishing the grunts’ attention. Hydreigon fires blasts of dragon energy at them, the grunts all scattering in terror.
Plasma Grunt 1: What is going on?!
Plasma Grunt 2: A Hydreigon!
Plasma Grunt 3: There! It’s the champ!
Ian and Mienfoo come out of hiding, Ian glaring them down.
Plasma Grunt 2: What do we do?
Plasma Grunt 4: Someone call Bronius!
The grunts throw Pokéballs choosing Camerupt, Garbodor, Golbat and Boldore. Hydreigon breathes Dragon Pulse as Mienfoo fires Swift stars.
Inside the volcano caverns, Bronius speaks to a Plasma Grunt on an Xtransceiver. The walls are open as the magma chamber is in the next room.
Bronius: The champion?! Here?! How?!
Grunt: He flew in on a Hydreigon! We’re getting smoked up here!
Bronius: Give it all you’ve got! Don’t let him get anywhere near me!
Bronius hangs up the call, grabbing his habit and crouching down in terror.
Bronius: What do I do?! Colress sent me solo on such a treacherous mission! This is so terrible! Oh I have to find my target and get out of here fast!
The terrain shakes as Excadrill Digs out of the ground. Ben climbs up through the hole.
Ben: Hello! Looks like I didn’t miss any of the action!
Bronius: What?! Another one?! Who are you?
Ben: Ben Tennyson, member of the IPA. And you’re under arrest.
Bronius: No, no, no! This day couldn’t possibly get any worse! Druddigon, go get it with Poison Tail!
Bronius throws his Pokéball, choosing Druddigon. Druddigon swings a poison energy tail and strikes Excadrill. Excadrill doesn’t budge and takes no damage.
Ben: Too bad. Excadrill is immune to poison. Now Armodrillo! Use Earthquake!
Armodrillo’s claws begin vibrating as it jets its claws into the ground. Earthquake tremors are released as the volcano shakes. Druddigon is blasted back defeated.
Bronius: Ah! Defeated!
Ben: I heard you were weak compared to the others. Bummer. Was hoping for a challenge.
The volcano shakes again, Ben startled by this. Magma bursts and rises up, smoke rising out of the summit. The smoke catches Ian’s attention as the Plasma grunts all lie defeated.
Ian: Now what? Hydreigon!
Ian and Mienfoo climb onto Hydreigon as it flies into the air. They go above the mouth of the volcano, spotting Heatran climbing up the volcano wall.
Ian: A Heatran. So that’s their target. Hydreigon, descend.
Hydreigon descends down the mouth, as Heatran spots them. Heatran breathes a liquid like fire, it flowing and forming like a powerful magma vortex. Hydreigon is forced to retreat, unable to enter the volcano. The Magma Storm rages on, blocking the entrance. Ben watches the Heatran, impressed.
Ben: Not bad. (Activates watch) May need a heavy hitter for this one.
Bronius: Now! To activate the master device! Handheld control device! Activate!
Bronius pulls out a handheld satellite ray gun, firing electromagnetic waves at Heatran. Heatran begins thrashing back and forth, then settles as its eyes glow red. It spins around and looks to Bronius.
Bronius: Yes! Control success! Heatran, destroy this insignificant pest!
Heatran breathes a Magma Storm at Ben, with Armodrillo preparing itself with Rapid Spin.
Ben: Hold on Armodrillo. Don’t think that’ll cut it. Bullfrag, it’s battle time!
Ben throws his Pokéball, choosing Bullfrag the Greninja.
Bullfrag: Grenin.
Ben: Mat Block!
Bullfrag flips a tatani mat up, using it as a shield against Magma Storm and ending it. Bronius freaks but regains his cool.
Bronius: No big deal. I can handle a simple trainer such as yourself! Heatran, incinerate him!
Ben: Good luck with that! Bullfrag, Hydro Pump then Brutal Swing!
Heatran prepares to attack, while Bullfrag spews a fast Hydro Pump stream. Heatran’s leg is hit, it steaming as the magma of its body begins to cool. Heatran angrily roars as it leaps across the volcano towards them. Bullfrag shoots its tongue across the ravine, wrapping it around the cooled leg. Bullfrag swings its body around, tugging Heatran and slamming it into the ground.
Ben: Armodrillo hit it with Earthquake!
Armodrillo strikes the ground, Earthquake traveling and hitting Heatran. It rises and roars, stampeding towards them with an Iron Head.
Ben: Foot first! Bounce!
Bullfrag ninja runs at Heatran’s Iron Head, leaping and going foot first. Bullfrag’s stomps Iron Head, Bouncing off and shooting into the air. Heatran is enraged, but sparks from paralysis.
Ben: Hydro Pump and Earthquake!
Bullfrag fires Hydro Pump from the air, pinning Heatran down. Armodrillo releases Earthquake that slams into it.
Ben: Hm. Dusk Ball would be useful in this situation. However, I remember reading that these things are exceptionally heavy. Making it ideal for my Heavy Ball!
Ben throws the Heavy Ball, it hitting and sucking Heatran in. The Pokéball shakes violently then locks.
Ben: Boo-yah! I caught a Heatran!
Bronius: (Screaming) WHAT?!
Bronius takes off running, Ben watching unimpressed by his slow run. Bronius calls on his Xtransceiver.
Colress: Hello Bronius. Status report.
Bronius: (Barely enunciating) The ray gun worked perfectly but they caught the Heatran while it was enraged! Its power was nothing to them! They’re gonna devastate me! Oof!
Bronius trips on a rock, as Ian and Mienfoo stand over Bronius. Ian bends down and takes the Xtransceiver, staring Colress in the eye.
Ian: Colress.
Colress: (Adjusts glasses) Ian.
Colress hangs up, as Ian drops the Xtransceiver. Ben comes over, forcing Bronius to his feet.
Ben: There we go! You are officially under arrest.
Bronius: Oh. Defeated by Ben Tennyson of the IPA.
Ian: (Glaring Ben down) Tennyson. Like Max.
Ben: (Sheepish laugh) Ha. Funny story about that.

Trivia[]
- Ben becoming a travel companion was foreshadowed in the Christmas special How Team Rocket Stole Christmas, as he and Ian had met before.
- Ian and Ben have a rocky relationship as Ben is cocky and a showman while Ian is more reserved.
- Mienfoo becomes Ian's next partner Pokémon, and the first one he doesn't catch in the first several episodes of its travel series.
- Originally this was going to be a two part episode, but the content didn't fill up that much.
- Ben has seemingly been sent to join Ian by order of the IPA.
- Bronius is the fourth of the Seven Sages to be arrested.
- Ben becomes only the second main character to own a Legendary Pokémon after Ian. He is the third trainer if Rosa's Phione is counted as a Mythical Pokémon.
