Thicker Than Water is the sixth episode of season one of A Random Pokemon Show (Reboot). It aired on 4/6/20.
Plot[]
Lana is banging pots and pans around the hallway, shouting.
Lana: Wake up! Wake up! It’s tournament time! It’s tournament time!
Slowly, Lillie and Mallow come out of their bedrooms, groggy.
Lillie: It’s still dark out!
Lana: You have your sleep mask on.
Lillie: Oh dear.
She takes it off, rubbing her eyes.
Mallow: I don’t even want to go to this dumb thing.
Lana: We’re going! There’s a prize! A rare pokemon egg!
Mallow: Whatever it is, Dakota probably has it in that zoo he calls a team!
Lana: We’re going.
Mallow and Lillie groan.
Mallow: Not like we don't want to go but why didn't you ask Steve?
Lana: He's at Professor Oak's Lab, doing yard work as punishment for crashing the Gala Event.
Mallow: Typical.
Lillie: We don't have any water Pokemon either.
Lana: Don't worry, Dakota and Steve lent me some of theirs. Now, come on let's go!
Mallow and Lillie look at each other and sigh.
Mallow and Lillie: Fine.
Lana squeals and hugs them both.
Lana: Thank you, thank you!
Later, the girls have arrived at the Tournament and are getting ready. Mallow has both Steve's Oshawott and Quagsire. Oshawott is looking for babes.
Mallow: Great, I just had to be stuck with Steve's Pokemon.
Lana: You wouldn’t have taken any of Dakota’s pokemon.
Mallow: Shut up.
Lillie: Guys, the matchups are up!
The girls rush to the board, seeing their opponents. Lana is against a blonde girl in a bikini named Viv. To their shock, Lillie and Mallow are pitted against each other.
Lillie: I-I have to go against you?
Mallow: I have to go against Dakota’s pokemon?
Lana: Oh boy. This should be fun.
Later, Mallow and Lillie are across from each other on the water battlefield. They both look nervous.
Announcer: Battle begin!
Mallow: Quagsire, go!
Lillie: Um, let’s go, Mavis!
They both throw their pokeballs, revealing Quagsire and Mavis the Milotic.
Mallow: Quagsire, Toxic!
Lillie: Milo- uh, Mavis, Aqua Ring!
Quagsire throws a stream of purple liquid at Mavis. Mavis summons a sphere of water around herself, which absorbs the attack, briefly turning the Aqua Ring purple before clearing out.
Lana, in the stands: She completely negated it! She may have a chance!
Mallow: Quagsire, Water Gun!
Lillie: Um...Hydro Pump!
Both Quasgire and Mavis fire their attacks at each other, the two attacks colliding and cancelling them out. Lana watches in despair.
Lana: It's hard for them to adjust to using a type they're not used to. When it comes down to it, water is my specialty.
Mallow: Go, use Mud Shot!
Quagsire just looks at her and sighs. Instead of attacking, Quagsire just lays there.
Mallow: Eh?!
Lana: Oh no. It knows Mallow isn't its actual trainer and won't listen.
Mallow: Come on! Quagsire, please!
Lillie: Mavis, Dragon Tail!
Mavis the Milotic swings her tail, covered in indigo aura. Quagsire dives under the water, dodging it. The water grows murkier as Quagsire muddies it.
Announcer: And it appears Quagsire has decided to take the battle into its own hands! How will this play out for Mallow?
Mallow: Quagsire, I.. I trust you! But you’ve got to give it all you got, okay? Make Steve proud!
The water bubbles for a second before erupting, coating Mavis and her Aqua Ring in dirty water. Her Aqua Ring becomes brown in color, much to her displeasure.
Lillie: Mavis!
Lana: It looks like Quagsire found a way to cancel out Aqua Ring.
Mallow: That’s the spirit, Quagsire! Keep it up!
Lillie: Ice Beam to freeze the water!
Mavis fires Ice Beam, freezing the water. Quagsire looks at it and then looks at Mallow.
Mallow: Alright, Quagsire. Mud Bomb!
Quagsire stares back at Mavis and fires Mud Bomb into its eyes, blinding it. Lillie looks concerned.
Lillie: Mavis!
Mallow: Yeah, we got this! Finish it with Hydro Pump!
Quagsire spits out a stream of water, knocking Mavis down. Mavis’ head falls against the ice, cracking it. Mavis rolls over, defeated.
Announcer: And, Mallow is the winner, disqualifying Lillie from the tournament.
Mallow: See, Quagsire? We’re a good team!
Quagsire: Quag!
Lillie, under her breath: Sorry, Dakota.
Later, Lana is across the field from a young man with a tan and blond hair.
Announcer: This battle between Lana and Tanner will now begin! Trainers, send out your pokemon!
Lana: Dewpider, make me proud!
Lana throws her Pokeball, choosing Dewpider.
Tanner: Dewpider, huh. Floatzel, surf up dude!
Tanner throws his Pokeball and sends out Floatzel.
Tanner: Aqua Jet!
Floatzel charges at Dewpider in a stream of water, knocking Dewpider back.
Lana: Bubble Beam!
Tanner: Quick, use Aqua Tail!
Dewpider fires Bubble Beam at Floatzel, Floatzel's tail glows and sends a wave of water at Dewpider, cancelling its attack.
Lana: Time to get physical! Dewpider, Lunge!
Dewpider charges Floatzel, basked in green aura. To Tanner’s shock, Dewpider scurries on top of the water, hitting Floatzel head-on.
Tanner: Didn’t think I’d have to use this move, but let’s go, it’s time! Floatzel, Rock Tomb!
Lana: Oh no!
Floatzel snarls and summons three large rocks from the air. In a swift motion, it throws the rocks at Dewpider, sending it below the surface, trapped under the rocks.
Lana: Dewpider!
Suddenly, Dewpider starts to glow.
Lana: Huh?
Tanner: What the?
Mallow: Could it be?
Lillie: Dewpider's evolving!
Dewpider evolves into Araquanid, breaking free the rocks. Lana smiles.
Lana: You evolved! Alright!
Tanner: Ugh. Floatzel, don't let this distract you. Aqua Jet!
Lana: Araquanid, use Bug Bite!
Floatzel flies towards Araquanid, cloaked in water, but Araquanid catches it midair, fangs glowing green. The bug-pokemon tosses the weasel around before letting it go, defeated. The crowd cheers.
Announcer: And Lana has emerged victorious, and will move on to the next round!
Lillie and Mallow: Woo! Go Lana! Go, go, go Lana!
Lana turns and looks at them, giving a thumbs up.
Next, Mallow and Oshawott stand across the field from a female trainer and her Lanturn.
Announcer: This battle between Mallow and Lisa will now begin!
Mallow: Oshawott, Razor Shell!
Lisa: Lanturn, Thunder Wave!
However, Oshawott doesn’t move, it’s eyes filled with hearts. He eyes Lisa and her Lanturn, infatuated. The Thunder Wave hits him straight on, paralyzing him.
Mallow, sighing: Like father, like son.
Lisa: Ha! This should be easy! Thunder!
Lanturn chirps and fires a large bolt of electricity, completely frying Oshawott. Oshawott sighs and falls over, defeated.
Announcer: And Mallow is defeated! Lisa moves on!
Mallow: I should’ve known not to get my hopes up.
Later, Lana is shown defeating various opponents, including a Qwilfish, a Starmie, and a Drednaw. Finally, she faces her final opponent, an older woman in a white robe.
Announcer: This is the final match between Lana and Jude! This will be a two-on-two battle! Begin!
Jude: Go, Crawdaunt!
Lana: Go, Araquanid!
The two send out their Pokemon, ready to battle.
Jude: Ice Beam!
Lana: Dodge it and use Bubble Beam!
Crawdaunt fires Ice Beam at Araquanid, who jumps, causing the stage to be frozen. Araquanid spits out bubbles at Crawdaunt, temporarily blinding it.
Lana: Alright, use-
Jude: Hyper Beam!
Crawdaunt charges up Hyper Beam and fires it at Araquanid, knocking it down onto the icy stage. Araquanid struggles to get up.
Lana: Come on, Araquanid. You got this! Aqua Ring!
Araquanid surrounds itself with clear water, healing it.
Lana: Now, finish it! Bug Bite!
Araquanid scurries across the water and clamps its glowing jaws around Crawdaunt, shaking it before dropping the crap pokemon, who’s defeated. Jude frowns and returns it.
Jude: Strong pokemon. But not as strong as mine. Go, Blastoise!
She throws a pokeball, revealing her Blastoise, a strong pokemon with a band on one of its legs containing a Blastoisite. The crowd gasps.
Lana: You can mega evolve?
Jude laughs.
Jude: Damn right. Mined this one myself, too. Bought the key stone from a vendor who works top secret with the league. I’m not playing around here, kiddo. You’re going down.
Blastoise: Toise.
Lana: We still got this, don’t we, Araquanid?
Araquanid: Nid.
Lana: Then let’s do this! Bug Bite!
Jude: I don't think so! Hydro Pump!
Blastoise launches streams of water from its cannon, blasting Araquanid down and ultimately defeating it.
Lana: No! Araquanid!
Announcer: And now both trainers are down to their last Pokemon. Who will win? Find out next time on Dragonb-I mean right now.
Lana returns Araquanid and draws a new Pokeball.
Lana: You're up! Primariana, I choose you!
She sends out Primariana, ready to battle.
Jude: Your ace? Then we’ll finish this one. Blastoise, mega evolve!
She taps her earring, activating the Blastoisite on Blastoise’s leg. There’s a blinding light, and Mega Blastoise stands tall, roaring. The crowd gasps in awe.
Lana: Let's win this for one, Steve! Icy Wind!
Jude: Skull Bash!
Primarina sings a high hote, summoning a chilly wind carrying shards of ice that pelt Mega Blastoise. However, Mega Blastoise doesn’t seem bothered, and rams Primarina, knocking her into the water.
Lana: Primarina!
Primarina sluggishly crawls out of the water before taking a battle stance. The crowd cheers.
Mallow: Kick her ass, Lana!
Lillie: Make Steve proud!
Jude: Who's Steve? Your boyfriend?
Lana: Yes, actually.
Jude: Heh. Shame he won't be here to see you lose. Blastoise, Hydro Pump!
Lana: Primarina, dodge, then Sparkling Aria!
Mega Blastoise fires a highly powerful stream of water from the cannon on its back. Primarina quickly dives underwater and begins to sing, her voice echoing throughout the water and stadium. The water on the field begins to glow and bubble, and a large portion of it rushes like a geyser, blasting Mega Blastoise and dragging it underwater. Primarina surfaces confidently, while Mega Blastoise struggles to swim, its cannons weighing it down.
Jude: Blastoise!
Lana: We got this, Primarina! We can win!
Jude: Heh, I don’t think so. Blastoise, Hydro Cannon!
Lana’s eyes widen in fear. Then, she eyes her Z-Crystal and Primarina’s Primarium Z. Her eyes narrow in determination.
Lana: Primarina! May we move as one! The power of Tapu Fini! OCEANIC OPERETTA!
Mega Blastoise, standing on the bottom of the pool/field, begins to absorb water into a concentrated orb in front of it. Lana and Primarina begin striking a series of synchronized poses, glowing with blue energy. By the time they’re finished, the entire field has been absorbed into Mega Blastoise’s attack, a large ball of concentrated water being held in place in front of its cannons.
Jude: You have no hope now, Lana Banana! Blastoise here has been trained to make his Hydro Cannon even more powerful! Now, unlea-
She’s interrupted by Primarina singing a loud and high note. All of the sudden, the water being controlled by Blastoise begins to glow a bright blue. Mega Blastoise and Jude’s eyes widen with fear as Primarina takes control of the water, singing one final note that unleashes it as a tidal wave, completely sweeping away Mega Blastoise. When the water settles after several minutes, Blastoise washes up onto the platform, defeated and in its normal form. The crowd goes crazy. Jude grumbles with disappointment and returns Blastoise.
Jude: Next time, I’ll Gigantamax…
Announcer: And Lana is the winner of the match, and the Whirl Cup!
Lana squeals in excitement and jumps up and down.
Lana: I did it! I won! I can't wait to tell Steve about this.
Jude approaches her.
Jude: You did a good job, kid. That boyfriend of yours is lucky to have a strong trainer like you as a girlfriend.
Lana: Thanks.
The announcer, Lillie, and Mallow approach the two. The announcer is holding an egg.
Announcer: As promised, here's the prize. A rare Pokemon egg.
He hands her the egg. Lillie and Mallow look at it. It’s blue with specks of red.
Lillie: Wonder what it is.
Mallow: Don't know. But what I do know is that I wanna go home.
Lana: Yeah, yeah, we’re leaving soon. (She smiles deviously) I can’t wait to tell Steve he’s gonna be a father!
The girls laugh maniacally as the episode ends.
