New Moon Shines on the Collector is a crossover movie that aired on 6/1/2018. It is the series finale of both Pokémon Tales: Dawn and Pokémon Tales: Wyatt.

Story

Ian: Charizard, Steel Wing!

Ian stands across from Kimberly on Boon Island, as their two Charizard fly through the sky. Ian’s Charizard has its wings glow like iron as it flies at Kimberly’s Charizard.

Kimberly: That all you got, brat?! Catch it with Dragon Claw, then fire Solar Beam!

Kimberly’s Charizard forms large green scaly energy claws over its claws, catching Steel Wing with ease. Kimberly’s Charizard forms a golden energy ball in its mouth, firing Solar Beam at point blank. Ian’s Charizard is blasted back, but recovers quickly.

Ian: Heat Wave!

Charizard flaps its wings, releasing a powerful heated wind. Kimberly’s Charizard takes it with ease, Kimberly scowling.

Kimberly: You’re still so weak! I can’t believe I agreed to train you. 

Ian: I said I’d be back one day. Charizard, it’s time! Blast Burn!

Ian’s Charizard glows with blue flames, the energy enveloping its body. It swings its fist, creating a ripple and crack in the air. An explosion of fire occurs, which travels through the air and detonates again as it hits Kimberly’s Charizard. Kimberly’s Charizard drops, but glides out of it, landing on the ground. Ian’s Charizard lands, roaring proudly. 

Kimberly: (Groans) That’s quite enough. You’ve mastered using Blast Burn through the air, so there isn’t anymore I can teach you. I declare you graduated. Now get the heck out of here! I can finally return to my retirement!

Kimberly’s Charizard grumbles, as Ian nods his head.

Ian: Thank you for your training. 

Ian and Charizard walk off, Kimberly smiling while he’s not looking.

Kimberly: They mastered it all in a week. It takes most trainers much longer than that, wouldn’t you agree?

Charizard grumbles and nods its head.

Ian and Charizard make it to the port town of Two Island, where Crystal sits and is eating an ice cream cone.

Crystal: Ian! You’re back! 

Ian: Miss me?

Crystal: (Startled) Huh? Oh, uh, I guess. I mean, I did everything that there is possibly to do on this island by the third day, so it is nice to be able to see you and leave and all. 

Ian: Let’s head back then. Charizard has mastered Blast Burn.

Crystal: Really?! That’s incredible, Charizard!

Charizard crouches down, allowing Ian and Crystal to climb onto its back. Crystal awkwardly wraps her arms around Ian to hold on, looking comfortable yet embarrassed. 

Ian: Charizard, let’s go!

Charizard takes off, as they fly across the ocean. Some time as they travel, a storm rages, with torrential rain and tidal waves almost reaching them. Charizard struggles against the head winds, Ian and Crystal straining to stay on as well.

Crystal: (Shouting) We can’t make it through this storm! We have to find somewhere to land!

Ian closes his eyes, as if focusing. He then taps Charizard’s neck, getting its attention.

Ian: (Points off to the distance) That way!

Charizard nods as it turns, heading that direction. The flame on its tail is beginning to shrink, it getting more and more exhausted. An island appears in the distance, Charizard beginning to drop from the sky.

Ian: Just a bit further, Charizard! We can make it!

Charizard is exhausted, no longer able to fly. They plummet towards the ocean, as a speck of green becomes visible from the island. A shadow travels across the water, rapidly approaching their impact point. The shadow rises up, it having a humanoid form and yellow round eyes. The attack hits Charizard from below, shoving it upward and redirecting it towards the island. Charizard crashes onto the beach, Ian and Crystal being thrown off. Ian looks up, the green glowing from the helmet of a Pokémon, the glow fading away. The Pokémon resembles the shadow of a child with a helmet, as it sinks into shadows and disappears. Ian groans as he tries to get up, as people run towards the group.

End Scene

Nurse Joy is treating Charizard, keeping it in a room with a fire burning. Ian and Crystal watch it through an observation window, Ian stern.

Crystal: I hope that Charizard will be alright. It saved our lives getting us to this island.

Ian: Shamouti Island. Not too far off from the Sevii Islands.

Voice: Alola! They’re alright!

A young adult who has reddish skin wearing a blue hawaiian shirt and is heavier in his belly, arms and legs leads a teenage girl over towards them. The girl wears a green beret, has her brown hair in two large pigtails, wears a pink sleeveless shirt and jeans. She looks uninterested in the situation.

Man: You gave us quite a scare, bros! The way you just crashed down like that in the storm!

Crystal: You’re Tito, right? Thank you so much for all that you did to help us.

Girl: (Scoffs) So he pulled you off a beach. Big whoop!

Crystal glares at the girl, as if offended by how rude she is.

Crystal: And who are you?

Girl: Why do you care?! (Her gaze shifts to Ian and back) The only reason I’m here is cause Tito dragged me along.

Tito: Melody, don’t be rude! Remember the island saying, “To be cold and frigid to others causes frost to cement your livelihood.”

Melody: Uh, we’re on an island. There is no snow. And I’m pretty sure you just made that up. 

Ian walks forward, going past Tito and Melody.

Crystal: Ian? Where you going? 

Melody gets a mischievous smile, as she sticks her foot out. Ian trips over it, falling forward. Crystal gasps in terror, as Ian’s expression looks confused.

Crystal: Ian!

One of Ian’s Pokéballs opens up, Piplup coming out. 

Piplup: Piplup!

Piplup jumps up, ramming into Ian’s chest. The force causes Ian to stand back up, regaining his balance. Piplup swings up onto Ian’s shoulder, pulling his eyelid down and blowing a raspberry at Melody. Ian keeps walking as if nothing happened.

Melody: (Scoffs) How rude!

Tito: You were the rude one, Melody! You almost tripped him! Go apologize!

Melody: (Groans) Whatev.

Melody follows after Ian, as Crystal looks furious.

Tito: I apologize for that. She usually doesn’t act out this much.

Ian and Piplup make it outside, leaning against the railing and looking up at the night sky. The sky is filled with stars, as the new moon makes the sky dark. Melody joins him, acting uninterested.

Melody: You know, you get tired of that view after a while.

Ian: I haven’t yet. It reminds me that my actions are small compared to everything else. But everything causes an effect, even if it isn’t noticed.

Melody gasps in surprise and interest at that comment, as she watches Ian’s expression. It lightens up, as Melody blushes and looks away. 

Ian: What’s going on over there?

Ian motions to other villagers preparing for a traditional ceremony.

Melody: Oh, it’s the New Moon Festival. Whenever the moon is completely gone from the sky, we have a festival to honor the island deity Marshadow. 

Ian: Marshadow? 

Melody: Almost no one has ever seen it, but it acts as a guardian, a protector. When trouble occurs, it is there to offer reprieve and safety. We honor it on this day as it is the most likely time that it comes out. We’ll have a festival tournament, a boy’s and girl’s tournament, then the winners from both will do a ceremonial dance for Marshadow. 

Melody realizes something, grinning mischievously.

Melody: You should totally participate in the tournament. There is still some room, and we have another group of foreigners participating with us this time too. I am the strongest female trainer on the island. Who knows? Maybe we’ll dance with each other.

Crystal: Dance with each other?! You two?!

Crystal runs over to them, only having heard the last of the conversation.

Crystal: Why would you two dance?!

Melody: (Teasingly) The winners of the festival tournament will dance together in a ceremony. You wouldn’t mind if I danced with Ian, now would you?

Melody winks at Crystal, her now steaming mad. Tito joins them, trying to calm Crystal down.

Tito: Crystal, relax! Remember this saying when you’re mad. “The Primeape that gets the banana is the one least likely to Thrash.”

Melody: Again, you just made that up. 

Ian: The tournament sounds like fun. (He turns to look at Crystal) You should join too.

Crystal: M-me?

Melody: (Offended) Her?! You’d rather dance with her?

Ian: Melody here said that she was the strongest female trainer on the island. It would be good training, and we may get to see this Marshadow.

Tito: (Dejectingly) Nah, bro. Marshadow barely shows itself to anyone.

Ian: Still. Let’s all compete.

Crystal: Uh, sure! It sounds like fun! (Mumbles) And I’ll get to shut this one up.

Melody and Crystal glare each other down, sparks forming. Tito and Piplup looks nervous while Ian is oblivious to it.

They head down to the festival grounds, as Tito joins a group and gets a grass skirt on. He pulls out a torch, which is lit aflame.

Tito: Hurah! Welcome to the New Moon Festival! We have several visiting guests, so make yourself at home! Now, the legend of Marshadow!

An Alolan Marowak walks out and joins the group of torch dancers, lighting its bone aflame. They all chant and spin their torches in coordination.

Tito: Long ago, our tribe voyaged from the Alola region to settle this island! We brought many customs and beliefs, but along with us secretly came the Gloom Dweller Pokémon Marshadow! We struggled to build homes and a civilization for ourselves, but Marshadow assisted! It helped prevent logs from falling upon us, helped to find fresh food and water! It protected us from wild Pokémon until we were able to defend ourselves! Marshadow now rests on the full moon, and comes out on the new moon! And so, we dance to celebrate our hero and protector!

There is a carving of Marshadow on the stage, overlooking a small dirt field. Ian’s eye catches the statue.

Ian: Huh? Is that?

Voice: Ian! Crystal! Alola!

Ian and Crystal turn, seeing Wyatt, Rosa, Ditto and Phione approach them.

Crystal: Wyatt?! Rosa! Why are you here?!

Wyatt: We were asked to—(Rosa elbows him) Oof! I mean, I had heard of this island and ceremony when I was a kid, growing up in Alola and all. I thought it would be cool to show Rosa the festival! Maybe get to dance with her.

Rosa: (Scoffs) As if you’ll get that lucky.

Rosa glances over nervously, looking towards a grouping of people in traditional skin cloaks and large Pokémon masks. 

Melody: I hate to break it to you, but I shall be winning the girl’s league. And I’m pretty sure I know who will be winning the boy’s league.

Wyatt: (Humbly) Yeah, I am pretty strong.

Melody: (Leering at Ian) Wasn’t talking about you. 

Crystal looks steaming mad again, as Rosa drags her off to the side.

Crystal: That little, she thinks she can just…

Rosa: Calm down, Crystal. She’s just probably infatuated by his physical attractiveness. (Blushes) I know I was for a bit.

Crystal: Physical attractiveness?! Is that all she cares about?! She’s so shallow, not caring about the sweet, kind person he is!

Rosa: Then let’s make a pact. We’ll take her down in the tournament.

Crystal nods in agreement, as they cross arms.

Phione: Phi! Phi!

The boy’s tournament starts, as Ian faces off against a local boy.

Local Boy: Go, Rowlet!

The boy throws his Pokéball, choosing Rowlet.

Rowlet: Row!

Ian: Rotom!

Ian throws his Pokéball, choosing Rotom.

Rotom: Rotom!

Local Boy: Rowlet, Leafage!

Ian: Discharge!

Rowlet releases shining green leaves from its body, them spiraling at Rotom. Rotom fires multiple streams of electricity, which break through and electrocute Rowlet. Rowlet drops defeated.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Rotom!

Ian: (Disappointed) That was almost too easy.

Rotom: (Snickering) Ro ro ro ro ro.

Wyatt’s Meowth faces against a Litten, which spits an Ember cloud at Meowth. 

Wyatt: Dodge and use Night Slash!

Meowth speeds away to dodge Ember, then runs through and slashes through Litten with glowing purple claws. Litten is shot back defeated.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Meowth!

Tito’s Marowak defeats a Gumshoos with Bone Rush, while another boy’s Trumbeak beats a Grubbin. It is now time for the first round of the girl’s tournament, as Crystal faces a hula dancer. 

Hula Dancer: Popplio!

Hula Dancer chooses Popplio.

Popplio: Poppli!

Crystal: Happiny, I choose you!

Crystal throws her Pokéball, choosing Happiny.

Happiny: Happiny!

Hula Dancer: Water Gun!

Crystal: Thunder Wave! Then Drain Punch!

Popplio fires Water Gun, hitting Happiny. Happiny releases streams of electricity, which travel up the Water Gun and electrocute Popplio, paralyzing it. Happiny then charges forward with a dark green energy sphere on her fist. She punches Popplio, defeating it.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Happiny!

Rosa chooses Slugma, which uses Ember to defeat a Bounsweet. A Jangmo-o defeats a Mareanie, as Melody goes up against a native girl.

Native Girl: Stufful!

Melody: Oricorio!

The native girl chooses Stufful, while Melody chooses a Sensu style Oricorio. 

Native Girl: Take Down!

Stufful charges forward with orange streaks behind it, as it rams Oricorio. Oricorio is unharmed.

Melody: Too bad. We’re a Ghost type. Air Slash!

Oricorio gracefully swings its wing, releasing a fan shaped air blade. Air Slash cuts through Stufful, defeating it.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Oricorio!

The boy’s round continues, Wyatt facing Ian.

Wyatt: Finally! We’ve never had a one-on-one before! Go Dusknoir!

Wyatt throws his Pokéball, choosing Dusknoir.

Dusknoir: Dusk!

Ian: Piplup.

Piplup: Piplup!

Piplup hops off Ian’s shoulder, ready to go. 

Wyatt: Shadow Sneak!

Ian: Take it, then Hydro Pump!

Dusknoir punches the ground, as a shadow fist rises from it, hitting Piplup. He is shot into the air, when he fires a powerful water stream. 

Wyatt: Shoot! He’s good! Shadow Punch!

Dusknoir swings and fires an indigo energy fist, colliding with Hydro Pump. Hydro Pump breaks through with ease, washing Dusknoir back.

Ian: Now Drill Peck!

Wyatt: Will-o-Wisp!

Dusknoir forms a blue fireball in its hands, throwing it at Piplup. Piplup spins like a top with a yellow bird aura, maneuvering to dodge Will-o-Wisp. It crashes into Dusknoir, defeating it.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Piplup!

Tito’s Marowak uses Flame Wheel to defeat an Alolan Raticate. The festival switches back over to the girl’s tournament, where Crystal and Rosa face.

Rosa: Sorry I couldn’t help you take her out, but I don’t plan on losing here! Phione, are you ready?

Phione: Phi!

Phione hops out of Rosa’s arms, ready to go.

Crystal: Phione? Can’t say I was expecting that. Mismagius, go!

Crystal throws her Pokéball, choosing Mismagius.

Mismagius: Mag.

Rosa: Phione, Bubble Beam!

Crystal: Fire Psybeam!

Phione fires a stream of bubbles, as Mismagius fires a blue energy beam with multi-colored shapes in it. The attacks collide and cancel each other out.

Rosa: Super Sonic!

Crystal: Screech!

The two Pokémon let out loud screams, everyone around them holding their ears. The attacks stop, neither one affected.

Crystal: Shadow Ball!

Rosa: Bubble Beam!

Mismagius fires Shadow Ball while Phione fires Bubble Beam. Shadow Ball breaks through, striking and defeating Phione.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Mismagius!

Melody’s Oricorio takes out an Oranguru, as the boy’s finals are between Ian and Tito.

Tito: Remember this saying when you lose, bro! “The lone Exeggecute will always feel better when returned to its cluster!”

Ian: Hm. I don’t think that makes sense.

Tito: Marowak!

Ian: Lucario!

Marowak walks forward, twirling its bone. Ian throws his Pokéball, choosing Lucario.

Lucario: Hurah!

Tito: Flame Wheel!

Ian: Oh, right. It’s a Ghost type in this form. Metal Claw!

Marowak’s bone is lit with bluish green flames as it rolls towards Lucario. Lucario forms metal energy claws over her paws, deflecting the Flame Wheel. 

Tito: Bone Rush!

Ian: Me First!

Marowak charges and thrusts its bone forward repeatedly, as Lucario glows with a violet aura. She forms an aura bone, and matches the attacks stroke by stroke. Marowak takes more damage as the two leap away.

Tito: Shadow Bone!

Ian: Me First!

Marowak and Lucario twirl their bones in unison, them glowing with purple flames and a blue aura. The two charge forward then clash attacks, bursts of purple and blue flames striking the other. They are both knocked back, but Marowak is defeated.

Referee: Hauh! The winner of the boy’s tournament is Ian!

Tito: Ah! Well, that’s life.

Crystal and Melody face each other, Melody with a confident grin.

Melody: Hate to break it to you, but only one of us can dance with Ian here. And it’s gonna be me.

Crystal: In your dreams! You’re going down! Go Pelipper!

Melody: Oricorio!

The two throw their Pokéballs, choosing Pelipper and Oricorio.

Pelipper: Pelipper!

Oricorio: Cori!

Pelipper glows with a blue aura, as storm clouds form overhead. A Drizzle occurs, freaking Melody out.

Melody: Ah! My hair!

Crystal: What’s wrong? Can’t take a little rain? Pelipper, Hydro Pump!

Melody: (Scowls) You’ll pay for that! Oricorio, Air Slash! Then we’ll hit them with Revelation Dance!

Pelipper fires a powerful Hydro Pump, as Oricorio fires Air Slash. Air Slash weakens Hydro Pump, but Oricorio is still washed back. Oricorio then does a dance, rubbing its wings together. It then thrusts them both forward, firing a blast of indigo energy that hits Pelipper. 

Crystal: Shock Wave!

Melody: Mirror Move!

Pelipper fires a stream of electricity, as Oricorio fires a Shock Wave to block it. Pelipper then fires another one, hitting Oricorio hard.

Crystal: And Hurricane!

Pelipper flaps her wings, releasing Hurricane winds. Hurricane slams into Oricorio, defeating it.

Referee: Hauh! The winner is Crystal!

Crystal: Yes! Thank you Pelipper!

Pelipper: Peli!

Melody: (Having a tantrum) No, no, no! No fair! That dance was mine!

Crystal: Better luck next time!

Crystal returns Pelipper, as the rain clears up, revealing the clear night sky. Tito shoves Ian forward, him confused on what’s happening.

Ian: Hey, quit it.

Tito: We have our divine champions for the festival! They shall now appeal to Marshadow with a ceremonial dance! Melody, if you would be so kind.

Melody groans in frustration, but goes over to a stand where a seashell ocarina is on a podium. She then begins to play the ocarina, it being a slow soothing song. Crystal looks extremely embarrassed and nervous, while Ian begins to understand the situation.

Ian: (Innocently) Oh. Well, Crystal. (Clears throat) May I have this dance?

Crystal: (Stuttering) Uuuuuuhhhhhhh sure.

Ian takes Crystal’s hand, as he pulls her in closer. She is now profusely red, avoiding eye contact with Ian as they slow dance. Hidden in the shadow of a tiki, Marshadow watches them. Ian notices it first, then spins around, startling Crystal.

Crystal: Ah! Ian, wha?

Ian: Look over my shoulder.

Crystal is now intrigued, looking in that direction and seeing Marshadow. 

Crystal: (Gasps) Is that?

Ian: The one who saved us and Charizard from falling into the ocean. It is a guardian, protecting even foreigners. 

One of the figures in the masks notices the Marshadow as well, staring after it with intent. Rosa spots the masked figure staring, becoming worried.

End Scene

Melody: Wait, you’ve met Marshadow?! Why didn’t you say anything?!

It is the dead of night, with the festival having winded down. Tito leads Melody, Ian, Piplup, Crystal, Wyatt, Rosa, Ditto and Phione to a secluded place in the forest.

Tito: Marshadow is a very shy Pokémon. While it wants to help people, it gets very uncomfortable when forced to interact with people. 

Ian: It saved our lives. The least we can do is thank it.

Tito: Fine. We are here.

Tito stops, as he takes a deep breath, then exhales. The yellow eyes of Marshadow peer through the shadows of the bushes, though doesn’t come out.

Tito: I have learned that it is more comfortable around Ghost Pokémon. Marowak.

Tito opens a Pokéball, choosing Marowak.

Marowak: Maro.

Ian: Rotom.

Crystal: Mismagius.

Wyatt: Dusknoir.

Melody: Oricorio.

They all open their Pokéballs, choosing Rotom, Mismagius, Dusknior and Oricorio. Marshadow materializes, approaching timidly.

Rosa: How about one more? Ditto?

Ditto: Dit.

Ditto comes off Rosa’s shoulder, Transforming into Marshadow. Marshadow looks intrigued by this, as it approaches. The Ghost Pokémon interact with it, as it looks cheery.

Marshadow: Mar. Mar!

Ian: Marshadow.

Marshadow flinches as Ian approaches, though he stops outside the ring of Pokémon.

Ian: I wanted to thank you for your help. We would’ve been in a bad place if not for you.

Marshadow: Mar.

Crystal: Oh, yes. We are so thankful!

The bushes rustle, as everyone turns to look. A Gengar comes out of them, its large grin seemingly larger than usual.

Gengar: Gen.

Ian: A Gengar? (Gasps) Shadow. 

Gengar forms black energy in its hands, as it releases it outward as a powerful pulse wave. The Dark Pulse tears through the area, defeating Marowak, Rotom, Mismagius, Dusknoir, Oricorio, Marshadow and Ditto Marshadow. Ditto Marshadow reverts to normal.

Shadow: No matter how often we run into each other, it never surprises me.

Shadow walks out of the forest, his face emotionless.

Shadow: That you are always in the way of my biggest jobs. 

Ian: I assume your vacation is over now?

Shadow: Quite.

Shadow opens his Ultra Ball, choosing Dragonite with an angry expression.

Dragonite: Dra, GON!

Dragonite charges a dark magenta Hyper Beam, as Ian opens a Pokéball choosing Charizard.

Ian: Charizard, Blast Burn!

Dragonite fires Hyper Beam, as Charizard smashes the air with Blast Burn. The Blast Burn travels through the air and collides with Hyper Beam, creating a powerful explosion. Charizard flies through the smoke, going for Steel Wing. 

Shadow: Dragon Claw to Aqua Tail.

Dragonite forms Dragon Claw over its paws, catching Steel Wings with its hands. Dragonite’s tail is surrounded in water energy, as it swings it around and slams into Charizard. Shadow opens two more Pokéballs, choosing Electabuzz and Dugtrio.

Shadow: Gengar, get Marshadow. You two, assist.

Gengar charges forward, as Ian moves in front of the others. 

Ian: Tito, Melody! Get Marshadow out of here! Crystal, Wyatt, Rosa, I’ll need your help here!

Wyatt: You asking for help?! Things must be serious! Rosa, let’s—

Wyatt turns around, seeing that Rosa was gone.

Wyatt: —call for reinforcements. 

Crystal: Pelipper, I choose you!

Ian: Lucario! Piplup!

Wyatt: Meowth, Alola!

Crystal chooses Pelipper, Ian chooses Lucario, and Wyatt chooses Meowth. Piplup hops off Ian’s shoulder. Pelipper’s Drizzle activates, causing it to rain over the field. Dragonite’s Aqua Tail is powered up, as it tears through Charizard’s Heat Wave and knocks it back.

Crystal: (Astonished) The Drizzle! I’m so sorry, Ian!

Ian: Don’t worry about it now. Just do what you can. Lucario, Metal Claw! Piplup, Hydro Pump!

Lucario charges in with Metal Claw, as Piplup fires a powered up Hydro Pump. Electabuzz speeds in with Quick Attack, parrying Lucario’s Metal Claw with Thunder Punch. Gengar dodges Hydro Pump and fires Dark Pulse at Piplup, forcing him back.

Wyatt: Meowth! Hit that Gengar with Parting Shot!

Meowth stands up, glowing with a black aura. Meowth then lets out a threatening roar, Gengar flinching backwards as its power goes down. Piplup hits Gengar with Hydro Pump, washing it back. Meowth returns to Wyatt’s Pokéball, choosing Togedemaru.

Togedemaru: Toge!

Melody picks up the defeated Marshadow, as she looks at Tito.

Tito: You go on ahead. You’ll be much faster than me. 

Melody nods her head, as she takes off running to the side. Shadow spots this, as Pelipper uses Hurricane, hitting Dragonite and pushing it back. Charizard uses Air Slash as well, Dragonite dodging nonchalantly.

Shadow: (Analytically) Electabuzz, Thunder on Pelipper. Dragonite, Thunder Punch. Gengar, force those two back with Shadow Claw. Dugtrio, Fissure.

Electabuzz jumps away from Lucario, as it charges and fires a Thunder attack into the storm cloud. Crystal spots this, gasping in fright.

Crystal: Pelipper! Protect!

Pelipper forms a blue barrier around herself, taking the Thunder as the attack causes a flash throughout the area. Dragonite appears with a Thunder Punch, striking Pelipper as her Protect fades. Charizard charges in with Steel Wing, Dragonite using Thunder Punch on it as well. 

Gengar forms indigo energy claws around its hands, as it slashes at Piplup and Togedemaru. Piplup uses Drill Peck to block Shadow Claw while Togedemaru uses Zing Zap, rolling like a ball while covered in electricity. The attacks neutralize each other, but the force of the attacks push Piplup and Togedemaru in the path between Dugtrio and Melody.

Ian: Lucario, stop Dugtrio with Aura Sphere!

Lucario forms Aura Sphere and fires it at Dugtrio. Electabuzz uses Quick Attack and intercepts it, taking the attack. It grimaces in pain, but charges at Lucario with Thunder Punch. Dugtrio shakes violently as it slams the ground hard, breaking the ground with a powerful white energy beam, leaving a Fissure in its wake. Piplup and Togedemaru are torn through by the Fissure, Togedemaru defeated with Piplup managing to survive. The Fissure cuts off Melody’s path, her falling into the fissure and using her legs to brace herself to the walls. She keeps a tight grip on Marshadow, who begins to stir.

Melody: Help! Tito!

Tito: (Huffing and puffing) I’m coming!

Gengar is on fast approach towards Melody, as Piplup rams it from the side with Drill Peck. Wyatt chooses Meowth again, who charges in with Night Slash. Gengar manages to dodge Night Slash, as its eyes glow multi-colored. Piplup and Meowth drop fast asleep from Hypnosis, as Ian grins.

Ian: Sleep Talk!

Gengar goes to walk past the sleeping Pokémon, as Piplup chirps in his sleep and glows bluish white for Whirlpool. Gengar is caught off guard and trapped in the Whirlpool, unable to move. 

Shadow: Tsk. Pest. Dugtrio, target Lucario. Electabuzz, shift to helping Gengar.

Electabuzz flaps its lips angrily, as it fires Thunder into the storm cloud. Thunder comes falling at Lucario. Lucario uses Me First, firing a more powerful Thunder burst up, negating the attack and flooding the area with light. Tito grabs Marshadow from Melody, it using its arms to shield itself from the light, it crying in pain. 

Tito: The light hurts you?

Shadow: That’s why it sticks to the shadows.

The ground below Lucario shifts, as Sand Tomb rises up and wraps around her. Electabuzz looks back at Shadow and Dugtrio angrily, not wanting help.

Shadow: I know you want to beat her. But the mission comes first. Help Gengar. 

Electabuzz grumbles in annoyance, as it takes off to charge Piplup. Dugtrio fires a Mud Bomb, hitting Lucario while she’s defenseless. Dragonite fires Hyper Beam, Pelipper blocking it with Protect as Charizard fires Air Slash. Dragonite dodges with ease as the storm cloud fades away.

Ian: Now we can attack. Charizard, Heat Wave!

Crystal: Pelipper, power it up with Hurricane!

Charizard flaps its wings, releasing a burst of heated wind. Pelipper uses Hurricane to expand the Heat Wave, Dragonite taking the full brunt of the attack. Gengar uses Dark Pulse to break out of Whirlpool, as Piplup sleepily fires Hydro Pump. Electabuzz intercepts it, and swings a Thunder Punch at Piplup, knocking it back. Gengar approaches Tito, who looks terrified as he tries to shield Marshadow.

Voice: Night Slash! Ice Beam!

Thing 1 the Weavile intercepts Gengar’s path, using Night Slash to send it flying back. Electabuzz looks shocked when it turns its head to the sound of Ice Beam, it hitting Dugtrio and defeating it. Lucario is freed from the Sand Tomb. Everyone looks to the side, seeing Rosa bringing Kidd Summers and Thing 2 with them, her holding the monster mask from before.

Kidd: Sorry for the delay. Didn’t have too much fun without me, did you?

Wyatt: Kidd! Finally! You took your time!

Rosa: (Annoyed) We are pretty far out here! We’re just lucky she was already heading this way!

Kidd: You help with that Gengar. I’ll take on Shadow.

Rosa nods and runs over towards the battle with Gengar, being on the opposite of the fissure than the others. Shadow’s eyes spot Phione, and then looks to the sky.

Shadow: It’s taking too long. Gyarados, Parasect.

Shadow opens two Pokéballs, choosing Gyarados and Parasect. Kidd stops by Shadow, Gyarados staring her down.

Shadow: Kidd Summers. Former employee of Grings Kodai. You’ll need both your Weavile to defeat Gyarados. Fire Blast.

Gyarados breathes fire, which breaks into a five pronged Fire Blast. Thing 2 fires Ice Beam, though it doesn’t weaken it enough. Thing 1 joins her, forming a storm cloud that an Avalanche of ice boulders falls through, blocking the Fire Blast. Shadow smirks as Kidd scowls.

Rosa chooses Sylveon, which uses its feelers to pull Melody out of the fissure.

Melody: Took someone long enough!

Rosa: Now Sylveon! Use Refresh to wake Meowth and Piplup!

Sylveon releases a green energy wave, waking Meowth and Piplup. Gengar struggles to get back up, staring them down. Electabuzz stands besides it, them nodding in agreement. Electabuzz prepares to charge, when Lucario grabs its head from behind, lifting it off the ground with Circle Throw. She slams it into the ground, it bouncing backwards. Lucario grins with pleasure, when it is paralyzed by Electabuzz’s Static. Electabuzz snarls greedily, taunting Lucario to come at it.

Gyarados swings its body around for Brutal Swing, Thing 1 and Thing 2 using Ice Punch and Brick Break to repel it. Dragonite flies at Charizard and Pelipper with Thunder Punch, pushing through their Heat Wave Hurricane combo and striking both of them. Piplup fires Whirlpool at Gengar, who blocks it and Meowth’s Night Slash with Shadow Claw. Parasect walks along the fissure, being on the same side that Rosa and Melody are now on. Sylveon uses its feelers to help Tito get across, Marshadow now coming to.

Marshadow: Mar.

Tito: Ssh. Relax Marshadow. It is okay.

Parasect releases a red spore cloud, the Rage Powder enveloping the group. Rosa, Melody and Tito cough from the Rage Powder, as Phione, Sylveon and Marshadow all have red eyes. Phione and Marshadow hop out of Rosa’s and Tito’s arms, as the three all charge Parasect.

Rosa: Phione! What are you doing?!

Tito: Marshadow, come back!

Parasect releases a green Spore, putting the three charging Pokémon to sleep, them dropping at its feet.

Rosa: Oh no you don’t! You won’t steal those Pokémon! Slugma, use Ember!

Rosa chooses Slugma, as it releases an Ember attack. Parasect is hit hard by the attack, groaning. 

Electabuzz trips Lucario with Low Kick, then slams her into the ground with Thunder Punch. It leaps back and fires Thunder into the air, Lucario copying it with Me First. The crash of Thunder attacks in midair echoes through the area, the light flashing down on them. Another Thunder attack shoots down, electrocuting and defeating Lucario. Ian’s eyes widen, as he looks to the sky.

Ian: You’ve got to be kidding me.

Zapdos descends from the sky, cooing angrily. It releases a Discharge, lightning streams tearing through the entire area. All the trainers are forced to step back and dodge, while Piplup, Meowth and Slugma are all hit and defeated. Charizard looks up at Zapdos, looking for a rematch. Charizard swings its fist for Blast Burn, shooting the attack up at Zapdos. Zapdos’ eyes glimmer as it Detects the attack, dodging it as it fires a Thunder. Thunder hits Charizard hard, as Dragonite strikes it from behind with Aqua Tail, defeating it.

Crystal: No! Pelipper, watch out!

Zapdos fires Discharge, as Pelipper raises Protect. Thing 1, Thing 2 and Gyarados are all electrocuted, as Gyarados breathes Fire Blast that finish Thing 1 and 2 off. Dragonite strikes Pelipper with Thunder Punch when the Protect fades, defeating her. 

Ian: Get Marshadow!

Rosa and Melody run towards Marshadow and Phione, as Gyarados slinks around and wraps around them. Shadow heads that way, when Kidd goes for a jump kick at Shadow, him having to block it with his arm. 

Shadow: Extreme sports master. It’s a shame that I’d have to hurt you.

Kidd: Please! You couldn’t if you tried!

Electabuzz rams Kidd from the side with Quick Attack, her tumbling into a tree. Electabuzz grins eagerly as Shadow returns it, swooping up Marshadow and Phione.

Shadow: Gyarados, give us cover. Dragonite!

Gyarados fires Hydro Pump, forcing everyone back as Shadow returns his other Pokémon and mounts Dragonite. Dragonite takes off, Shadow returning Gyarados. Zapdos follows after Dragonite, as the group looks defeated.

Melody: Will someone tell me what’s going on?!

Later, Rosa’s Blissey is using Soft-Boiled to heal all the defeated Pokémon, while the now awake Sylveon is helping out with Refresh. Kidd sits cross-legged, sighing in defeat.

Kidd: Well that was sorta what I had in mind.

Ian: Define what you “had in mind.”

Kidd: After the fall of Grings Kodai, I’d been working to figure out who he works for, and how to stop him once and for all.

Ian: You found out about Lawrence.

Kidd: But the man’s untouchable. Armies of lawyers to keep him out of jail. Then I found a loophole that was too good to be true. It is illegal to be in possession of island deities without permission of the grand chief or kahuna, punished by the islands and outside the legal system. Lawrence has been going crazy in the Alola region recently for some reason, so I figured if I could lure him to a place of my choosing…

Tito: Hold on. Are you saying that you used Marshadow as bait?!

Kidd: I didn’t expect him to actually get it! I knew Shadow was strong, but not that strong! I mean, he matched Ian for crying out loud! Who does that?!

Tito: The spirits do not look well upon you, lady. You will be lucky to avoid the island’s judgement!

Ian: (Looks at Wyatt and Rosa) How’d you two get dragged into this?

Wyatt: Well, we were going to head to Alola, when Kidd found us.

Rosa: We wanted to help after what we experienced with Kodai. It was only right. 

Kidd: But I have a backup plan! I know where his cruise ship is! It’s sailing nearby. We can sabotage it so he has to go to port, then get him arrested when they check the ship!

Tito: And we will free Marshadow while we’re there.

Kidd: Yes, yes. After we get him arrested—

Melody: Are you all crazy?! The seven of us combined couldn’t beat that one guy! How are we supposed to pull this off!

Ian: Through teamwork. Before, we were ambushed and working independently. Now however, we have the upper hand. We can take control.

Kidd: Hey, I’m leading this expedition! I appreciate your help, but—

Ian gives Kidd a menacing glare, a wave of angry aura washing over Kidd. Kidd looks petrified, as she backs down.

Ian: Not anymore. I’ve battled Shadow and Lawrence many times. Here’s how it’s going to go down.

End Scene 

Tito drives a speed boat out on the calm ocean, with the others in the back. They approach a large cruise ship, named the S.S. Tivan. The group is relatively silent, Melody sitting closer to Ian than necessary. Crystal looks upset by this, but doesn’t say anything. Rosa looks dismayed, as Wyatt puts his hand on her shoulder.

Wyatt: Don’t worry, Rosa. We’ll get Phione back.

Rosa: (Broken) Yeah. Sure. 

Ditto looks over the edge of one side of the speed boat at the ocean, as Piplup stares at it from the other side. A large shadow approaches and is under their boat, freaking them both out. 

Ditto: Ditto!

Piplup: Piplup!

Ian’s instincts kick in, as he senses what’s now under the boat.

Ian: Tito! Swerve us to the side!

Tito turns the ship to the side, as a School Form Wishiwashi breaks out of the ocean, at least three times the size of their speed boat. It splashes back down, a tidal wave caused by it heading towards them. Piplup forms a Whirlpool, blocking the tidal wave.

Kidd: What the heck was that?!

Wyatt: A Wishiwashi school!

Ian: I’m sensing so many different aura signatures!

Wyatt: Wishiwashi are usually small. But they group together to form one powerful Pokémon!

Tito: Statistically, it is as strong as some Legendary Pokémon!

Melody: It’s alright! Ian can handle it!

Ian: We’re at a major disadvantage at sea!

Wyatt: Let’s give you a boost then! Gastrodon!

Rosa: Prinplup!

Crystal: Buizel!

The three open their Pokéballs, choosing their Pokémon. Wishiwashi dives down, its shadow disappearing.

Ian: Crystal, lure it back to the surface!

Crystal: Right! Buizel, dive down, and get its attention with Sonic Boom!

Buizel nods his head as he dives into the ocean. He uses Aqua Jet to speed up, seeing Wishiwashi preparing to come back after them. Buizel’s tails glow white as he spins, firing a shock wave for Sonic Boom. Sonic Boom hits Wishiwashi, some Solo form Wishiwashi peeling off and fleeing. School Wishiwashi charges up after Buizel, him swimming back up towards the surface. 

Ian: Okay. Rosa, when it breaks the surface, have Prinplup use Quash. Wyatt, have Gastrodon use any non-water moves it knows. It knows at least Mud Bomb, right?

Wyatt: Ha! I’ve got one better!

Rosa: You understand, Prinplup?

Prinplup: Prinplup!

Rosa: In that case, Ditto! Transform into Gastrodon and join its attack.

Ditto: Ditto!

Buizel shoots out of the water with Aqua Jet, as Wishiwashi shoots out after it, jaws open to snag it. Prinplup lets out a crying chirp, releasing a black energy wave. Wishiwashi slows to a sluggish pace, still rising. 

Wyatt: Now! Dual Sludge Bomb!

Gastrodon and Ditto Gastrodon fire Sludge Bomb, exploding on School Wishiwashi. More Solo Wishiwashi break off, it beginning to shrink.

Ian: Piplup, trap it with Whirlpool. 

Piplup: Lup!

Piplup glows bluish white, as a Whirlpool forms in the ocean at Wishiwashi’s base. The Quash fades, as Wishiwashi is caught by the Whirlpool, being dragged back down. A tidal wave forms from the crash, as Gastrodon releases a Muddy Water to counter it. Tito struggles to steer them out of the current of Whirlpool.

Tito: Bro, did you have to make such a strong Whirlpool?!

Ian: Now! Full onslaught!

Piplup fires Hydro Pump, Buizel Scald, Prinplup Bubble Beam, Gastrodon and Ditto Gastrodon Sludge Bomb. School Wishiwashi breaks down from the attacks, the Solo Wishiwashis fleeing. One remains, as it dives into the water and retreats. Piplup stops the Whirlpool, as they regain trajectory towards the cruise ship.

Melody: (In awe) Oh, wow Ian! That was incredible! You led us to victory so easily!

Ian: Why didn’t you choose a Pokémon? Oricorio could’ve been helpful.

Melody: (Insulted) You expect me to put my Pokémon in harm?! There was no way we could beat that thing!

Ian: Then shut up if you’re not going to contribute anything useful.

Melody looks hurt, as everyone looks away uneasy. Crystal has a little flicker of satisfaction, but feels bad for Melody. They arrive at the S.S. Tivan, with a rope ladder hanging on the side. They tie the boat to the ship, securing it. There is a tube system hanging on the edge of the ship, as a Wishiwashi jumps into it and swims up. It arrives in a large room with a pool, surfacing to face Lawrence who sits on a throne.

Wishiwashi: Wishi! Wishi!

Lawrence: I see. Thank you for the warning. Be prepared to call your brothers again. 

Wishiwashi nods and dives back down, as Lawrence turns to Shadow who is besides him.

Lawrence: They are really becoming annoying. 

Shadow: There are seven hostiles approaching. Besides Ian, there are two trainers that pose a threat. The rest will be easy picking, but they’ll split up to support weak trainers with strong ones. 

Lawrence rubs his forehead, as if having a headache.

Lawrence: How do you want to handle this? I grow weary of having to handle them.

Tito and Rosa travel through the hallways of where the guest’s cabins would be, which are instead lined with energy cages housing Pokémon. They past Toucannon, Spearow, Cutiefly, Charjabug, Toxapex, Lillipup, Salandit, Cubone, Bewear, Pangoro, Alola Vulpix, Alola Sandshrew, Alola Persian, Alola Graveler, Alola Grimer, Bruxish, Sandile, Trevenant, Midday Lycanroc, Chansey, Comfey, Seaking, Corsola and Lanturn. Rosa gasps with delight as she finds Phione in an energy cage. Rosa presses against the forcefield, as does Phione.

Phione: Phi! Phi!

Rosa: Don’t worry, Phione! We’ll get you out!

Malamar: Malamar.

Rosa and Tito turn, seeing Malamar approaching them. Its abdomen begins shining with a white light, the two shielding their eyes.

Rosa: Joke’s on you, Malamar! We’re prepared for this! Sylveon, use Misty Terrain!

Rosa opens her Pokéball, choosing Sylveon. Sylveon has his eyes closed, inhaling and exhaling to release a blue mist over the field. The Misty Terrain dampens Hypnosis, angering Malamar. Malamar flies feet tentacles first, glowing red for Super Power.

Tito: Marowak, take that attack and hit it with Shadow Bone!

Tito chooses Marowak, which takes Super Power with no damage. Marowak swings Shadow Bone, crashing into Malamar and blasting it back. Malamar scoffs at this development and retreats. 

Tito: Ha! Not so tough now!

Rosa: Alright, let’s free Phione. Then we can help the others find Marshadow. I hope Kidd’s getting her part done. 

Kidd sneaks her way to the command room to take the helm. She comes to the door, opening it and entering. A green energy anchor chain shoots at her, as she dives and rolls to the side to dodge. The Captain stands with a brown captain’s jacket, with a brown mustache and hair in big ponytails. Two Dhelmise float beside him.

Captain: Avast! I was informed some wee lads would be trying to commandeer my ship! Imagine my surprise to see it is just a lass!

Kidd: (Chuckles) Please. This lass is gonna be the last person to defeat you. Thing 1! Thing 2!

Kidd opens her two Pokéballs, choosing Thing 1 and Thing 2

Thing 1 & 2: Weavile!

Captain: Anchor Shot!

Both Dhelmise fire Anchor Shot, Thing 1 and Thing 2 going opposite directions to dodge them. They make it to the wall and push off, Thing 1 going for Ice Punch while Thing 2 goes for Brick Break. Ice Punch injures the first Dhelmise, while the second one is unharmed.

Kidd: (Scowls) Ghost types.

Captain: Anchor Shot! Heavy Slam!

The second Dhelmise fires Anchor Shot, with Thing 1 shoving Thing 2 out of the way. Thing 1 is hit hard and trapped in the chain, unable to get free. The first Dhelmise falls anchor first at Weavile, a silver energy form of the anchor crashing into it. 

Kidd: Thing 1, retaliate with Avalanche! And Thing 2, Shadow Ball to Beat Up!

Thing 1 howls to the sky, as a storm cloud forms over the first Dhelmise. Ice boulders fall and crash into it, defeating it. Thing 2 fires Shadow Ball, hitting the second Dhelmise and injuring it. Thing 2 glows with a black aura as the silhouettes of Thing 1, Chimchar, Sudowoodo, Yanmega and Hypno appear behind her. She scratches and hits the second Dhelmise six times, it falling defeated afterwards. Thing 1 is freed from the chains.

Captain: Gaarrgh! This isn’t over! The captain will go down with the ship before letting it be highjacked!

Thing 2 fires Ice Beam, freezing the Captain. 

Kidd: Guess you won’t go down with it then.

Kidd makes it to the controls, getting on the radio.

Kidd: Hello, police? I’m bringing an illegal transport ship into the harbor. 

Crystal and Melody transverse the lower levels of the cruise ship, the two having tension between them.

Melody: I can’t believe Ian told me to shut up like that! I mean, how can he not appreciate my exceedingly good looks?! I’m the cutest girl on the island!

Crystal: (Irritated) That’s the problem. He doesn’t care about things like beauty and appearance. What he respects is your character.

Melody: Character?

Crystal: Who you are beneath it all. Are you someone who tries their best? Are you nice? Do you act without thinking of yourself first? You can act as shallow as you want, but he sees right through that and goes for the real you. 

Melody looks solemnly at Crystal, then gets a mischievous smile. 

Melody: I doubt all of that’s true. I mean, he looked really happy to dance with you.

Crystal: (Flustered) What?!

Melody: Of course, you wouldn’t know because you were too embarrassed to look him in the eye. But he was staring right at you, eyes longing for you with a big smile.

Crystal: (Blushing) No, no. I mean, sure he could be interested, but why, he doesn’t act like that!

Melody: (Giggles) Maybe you don’t know your boyfriend as well as you think you do.

Crystal: (Nervous) He’s not my boyfriend! He’s, wait, you hear that?

The two stop in front of a door, the sound of loud humming from lights coming from it. They nod in agreement, opening the door. They shield their eyes from the light, as luminescent lights fill the room, shining off the white walls to make it unbearably bright. Marshadow lays underneath a few lamps, the light weakening it exponentially.

Melody: Marshadow!

Melody enters the room, when Shadow steps in their way. Gengar and Electabuzz are out with him as well. 

Shadow: I expected Ian to go after Lawrence instead of me. Taking on the head instead of the grunt. But really. Does he expect you to be able to match me alone? 

Crystal: That’s exactly what he expects! We all know how strong you are, and he speaks highly of your skill. He wouldn’t have left it to me to face you if he didn’t have complete faith in me!

Melody: (In awe) Crystal. So that’s what she meant. He sees her potential.

Shadow: The last of his friends I faced put up quite a fight too. Maybe I’ll be surprised again.

Crystal: Don’t worry about that. You will! Pelipper! Mismagius!

Crystal chooses Pelipper and Mismagius. Pelipper’s Drizzle activates, a storm cloud forming in the room and cutting out some of the light in the room. The rain starts, as Shadow laughs.

Shadow: Trying to help Marshadow regain some strength?! Even when facing me, you are thinking about the next phase. Gengar, Dark Pulse! Electabuzz, Thunder!

Crystal: Mismagius, Confuse Ray! Pelipper, Protect!

Mismagius flashes her gems with a red light, Gengar having to cover its eyes. Electabuzz fires Thunder into the rain cloud, Pelipper raising Protect to block it. Melody maneuvers around the battlefield, heading towards Marshadow.

Melody: While she handles the creep, I can free Marshadow!

Shadow: Don’t count on it.

Shadow opens a Pokéball, choosing Parasect. It comes between Melody and Marshadow, Melody taking a battle stance.

Parasect: Para.

Melody: I can’t waste this chance! Oricorio!

Melody throws her Pokéball, choosing Oricorio.

Oricorio: Ori!

Melody: Air Slash!

Oricorio fires Air Slash, as Parasect’s pinchers glow with purple energy. It swings them in a cross motion, firing a Cross Poison in the shape of an X to block Air Slash. Parasect then releases a Spore, which is washed away in the rain. Shadow scoffs at this, while Mismagius block’s Gengar’s Shadow Claw with Shadow Ball.

Shadow: Typical. Never what is expected. Parasect, hold strong till the rain ends! Electabuzz! Target Oricorio with Thunder! Gengar, Hypnosis!

Crystal: Mismagius, use Screech to distract it! Pelipper, Hurricane!

Melody: Oricorio, Revelation Dance!

Oricorio dances and fires Revelation Dance at Parasect, who counters with Cross Poison. Electabuzz charges Thunder and Gengar prepares Hypnosis when Mismagius lets out an ear splitting Screech, everyone holding their ears. Pelipper flaps her wings, the Hurricane tearing through the room. Mismagius takes some damage, while Shadow, Gengar, Electabuzz, Parasect, Melody, Oricorio and Marshadow are blown away and slammed into the wall. The lamps that were on Marshadow break, as Marshadow begins to stir.

Shadow: No! Stop it!

Melody: Air Slash, quick!

Parasect tries a Spore again, but is hit by Air Slash before the results can be seen. Mismagius fires Shadow Ball at Gengar and Pelipper fires Hydro Pump at Electabuzz, hitting them hard. Melody goes over to Marshadow, who stands up.

Marshadow: Mar.

Melody: It’s okay, Marshadow. We’ll get you out of here. 

Shadow and his team begin to get up, as Marshadow faces them angrily. Its helmet turns green with yellow frills on the top, as it disappears into the shadows. The shadow forms on the ground under them, as it uses Spectral Thief, the shadow large enough to encompass all of them. Shadow is shot up and hits the ceiling, crashing down while moaning in pain. Parasect, Gengar and Electabuzz are down.

Melody: Wow! That’s super strong!

Crystal: Come on! We have no more time to waste!

Rosa’s Ditto transforms into Marshadow, fading into the ground as a shadow and able to slide under the energy field around Phione. Ditto Marshadow comes out of the shadow, as Phione goes to it. Ditto Marshadow enters the shadow while holding onto Phione, getting it out of the cage. Rosa embraces Phione and Ditto Marshadow when they come out, Ditto Marshadow reverting.

Rosa: Phione, I’m so glad you’re okay! And Ditto, you were amazing! Thank you so much!

Ditto: (Pleased) Ditto!

Tito: Come on. Let’s get a move on now.

Tito and Marowak prepare to go back the way they came, when Malamar returns and blocks the path.

Tito: You wanna go again, bro?! Marowak, take them with Shadow Bone!

Marowak charges forward with Shadow Bone, as Malamar catches it with its tentacle. Malamar spins around and slams Marowak into the ground, it bouncing off the ground as it is knocked back. Malamar glows red and exhales a puff of air, using Swagger to confuse Sylveon. Sylveon sways from side to side, as Malamar uses Hypnosis.

Rosa: (Covering her eyes) Sylveon! Use Misty Terrain!

Sylveon doesn’t respond, striking his head with his feeler. He is hypnotized, as he turns on them. Rosa groans as she returns Sylveon.

Rosa: Run!

Rosa carries Phione and Ditto as she turns the opposite way of Malamar and flees, with Tito and Marowak close behind. They make it out onto the deck, where Zapdos is chained down to a landing platform. Rosa and Tito gasp in surprise, as Malamar now blocks the way back. Zapdos looks unresponsive.

Malamar: Mala.

Malamar glows with Hypnosis, as Zapdos’ eyes gloss over. It releases Thunder, destroying the chain on it and spreading its wings, cawing to the sky.

Rosa: (Intimidated) That’s, not good.

Ian, Piplup and Wyatt arrive in the captain’s quarters, it being a large room with a pool right in the middle of it. On the other side of the pool is Lawrence, sitting on his throne with Pachirisu resting on his shoulder. Wishiwashi swims in the pool.

Lawrence: (Composed) Hello Ian. We must stop meeting like this.

Ian: With me ruining your plans? 

Wyatt: This is the big bad? He looks like a billionaire wannabe. And what’s with you going after Alola Pokémon?

Lawrence: My associate Shadow sent me this Wishiwashi back from his journeys, and the tales of Alola. Before this revelation, I thought that there were only 721 Pokémon in the world. This expanded my world, and the size of my collection. I desire to complete a living Pokédex, owning all species of Pokémon at once! Imagine my surprise when I learned there were more, and how frantic I became to obtain as many as I could! While you were defeating Kodai in Sinnoh, I was expanding my collection in Alola!

Wyatt: Dude, do you hear yourself? I mean, I’m trying to complete the Pokédex too, but this is obsessive.

Lawrence: This is my life! I will become the one who owns all the Pokémon of the world! And you two are hindrances to my goal, my dream!

Lawrence opens a Pokéball, choosing Vanilluxe. Vanilluxe floats forward, as Wishiwashi’s eyes shine brightly, sending a signal. Wishiwashi flood into the pool, them all Schooling together to form School form Wishiwashi. It lets out a bellowing cry, Wyatt backing up intimidated.

Wyatt: Uh, Ian? In Alola, even the smallest child knows not to mess with a School of Wishiwashi!

Ian: Too bad I didn’t grow up there. Rotom!

Ian throws his Pokéball, choosing Rotom.

Rotom: Rotom!

Wyatt: (Sighs) Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Crabominable, Alola!

Wyatt throws his Pokéball, choosing Crabominable.

Crabominable: Crabominable!

Lawrence: (Eyes widening) Is that an Alola Pokémon? I must have it! Retrieve it!

Vanilluxe blows snow with a sparkling blue wind from its mouth for Frost Breath, Rotom Levitating over the water while dodging so it freezes the water. Wishiwashi breaks out of the water, going to crash down on Rotom.

Ian: Rotom, Thunder Shock!

Wyatt: Crabominable! Run along that ice there and hit it with Power-Up Punch!

Rotom releases Thunder Shock, electrocuting Wishiwashi as it falls towards Rotom, some Solo Wishiwashi breaking off. Vanilluxe appears before Rotom, letting out a scream that Astonishes it. Rotom flinches as Vanilluxe breaks into water with Acid Armor, Wishiwashi crashing down into the two of them. The wave formed by it washes Crabominable back, breaking the ice path.

Wyatt: Crabominable! Use Ice Hammer to make a path for you!

Crabominable forms an Ice Hammer around its hand, placing it in the water. The top layer of the water freezes over, as it walks out. Rotom is underwater, as Wishiwashi approaches it and Vanilluxe’s eyes become visible. Rotom lets loose Discharge, electrocuting both of them. Vanilluxe melds through the ice, surfacing above the water.

Wyatt: Power-Up Punch!

Crabominable’s fist glows orange as it punches Vanilluxe, defeating it. Lawrence scoffs as he returns it. Wishiwashi breaks out of the water, Rotom escaping with it. Wishiwashi turns black, as the individual Wishiwashi are highlighted. The individual Wishiwashi shoot out and retract back into School Wishiwashi, using Beat Up to inflict major damage to Rotom and Crabominable. Rotom is defeated while Crabominable barely hangs on. 

Wyatt: Now use Reversal!

Crabominable is surrounded in orange energy, as it swings its arm forward. Orange energy shoots out like a rocket, blasting Wishiwashi and causing several Solo Wishiwashi to break off and flee. Pachirisu hops off Lawrence’s shoulder, firing a Thunder that strikes and defeats Crabominable. It lands back on Lawrence’s shoulder, him petting Pachirisu. 

Lawrence: Wishiwashi. Take them out now. And bring me that Crabominable.

Wishiwashi opens its jaws at Ian and Wyatt, firing a Water Gun attack as wide as its body. Wyatt flinches as Piplup leaps forward, forming a Whirlpool that blocks it. Wyatt sighs in relief while returning Crabominable, as Ian looks serious.

Ian: This tactic won’t work. We need to take it out in one blow. (He eyes the water) And prevent its movement. Charizard, use Blast Burn!

Ian throws his Pokéball, choosing Charizard. It roars to the sky, as it is enveloped in blue flames. 

Lawrence: Wishiwashi, stop it!

Wishiwashi fires Water Gun again, Piplup blocking it with Whirlpool. Charizard punches the pool water, releasing the flames of Blast Burn into it. The water explodes like a geyser, steaming and evaporating as it rises to the sky. School Wishiwashi glows as all the Solo Wishiwashi break off, fleeing through the tube while there is still water to escape through. When the attack ends, Lawrence’s Wishiwashi is left alone flopping in the bottom of the pool. 

Wyatt: Nice! Now just to make sure. Togedemaru! Take it out with Zing Zap!

Wyatt throws his Pokéball, choosing Togedemaru. Togedemaru rolls at Wishiwashi with Zing Zap, electrocuting it and sending it flying out of the pool at Lawrence’s feet. Lawrence scowls with distain as he returns Wishiwashi. A loud caw is heard from outside, Thunder flashing through the sky.

Wyatt: What was that?

Ian: Zapdos.

Wyatt: Eh?! He controls it?! I thought that was just a random occurrence!

Lawrence: (Laughing manically) This isn’t over! My Zapdos is more powerful than anything you can muster! It will destroy you all!

Lawrence gets up off his throne and runs towards an exit, with Pachirisu jumping up and firing Thunder at the group. The Thunder arcs as it is redirected, hitting Togedemaru. It squeaks with delight from this, as Lawrence and Pachirisu go through the exit.

Ian: After it!

Ian, Piplup and Wyatt run around the pool to head for the door, while Charizard flies down into the pool and picks Togedemaru up. Once they make it to the main level with the others, Togedemaru rolls alongside them.

The cruise ship has shifted directions, now heading inland. Two Zapdos fly through the sky, ramming into each other. One Zapdos fires Thunder at the other, the second one’s eyes twinkling as it uses Detect to dodge. The second Zapdos goes in with Steel Wing, the first Zapdos dodging with Detect. Rosa stands on the deck holding Phione, leaning by the railing.

Rosa: That’s it, Ditto! You’re doing great! Hold it off until we get help!

Marowak rolls and is covered in Flame Wheel, ramming into Malamar. Malamar grabs it and slams it to the ground with Foul Play, Marowak skidding back and stopping itself with its bone. Malamar looks smug, until Marowak glows with a dark indigo aura, it covering Malamar as well. It examines itself hastily, wondering what happened.

Tito: (Grins) Cursed Body. That disables one of your moves. Specifically Foul Play, your only move that can harm us! Now Marowak! Shadow Bone!

Marowak charges in with Shadow Bone, as Malamar releases a Hypnosis. Marowak closes its eyes, slamming Shadow Bone into Malamar. It goes flying down the hallway, defeated. 

Tito: Now that was a good battle, bro.

Marowak: Maro!

Crystal, Pelipper, Mismagius, and Melody carrying Marshadow make it on deck, leaning over the railing to see the battle between Zapdos and Ditto Zapdos.

Melody: Oh, for crying out loud! Two of them?!

Crystal: One of them is most likely Ditto. We need to join up with the others!

Crystal and Melody take off running down the path, as Shadow comes through the door after them. He opens a Pokéball, choosing Dugtrio.

Dugtrio: Trio!

The composure of the deck shifts and becomes mushy, trapping Crystal’s and Melody’s feet in Arena Trap. They turn back to see Shadow approaching. 

Crystal: Darn it! I thought we were rid of him! Pelipper, you take to Marshadow to Tito!

Pelipper: Peli!

Pelipper opens her bill, Melody placing Marshadow in it. Marshadow doesn’t look happy with this.

Melody: It’ll be okay. Tito says he can help with you there. So go to him.

Marshadow nods, as Pelipper closes her bill and flies off. Shadow chooses Gyarados and Dragonite, the two flying after Pelipper.

Crystal: Mismagius, Screech!

Mismagius releases Screech, Dragonite flying fast enough to get out of its range. Gyarados is trapped in it, turning back to face them. Mismagius fires a Psybeam at Dugtrio, it blocking it with Mud Bomb. 

Shadow: Dugtrio won’t be able to counter Mismagius due to its Levitate. But Gyarados can. Brutal Swing!

Gyarados flies back at the group, swinging its entire body around. Mismagius, Crystal and Melody duck underneath it, as the Brutal Swing damages a part of the ship, the roofing coming down. Mismagius wraps its appendages around Crystal and Melody, as it glows with an indigo aura. A portal forms over them as they vanish, the roofing crashing into the now unoccupied deck. Shadow scoffs at this as the Arena Trap fades.

Shadow: Annoying brats.

A new portal opens further down the path with Mismagius, Crystal and Melody, them gasping for breath.

Melody: (Wheezing) What was that?!

Crystal: (Short on breath) Phantom Force! You learned Phantom Force to save us!

Mismagius: (Nodding embarrassedly) Mismag.

Lawrence comes out onto the top level of the cruise ship, climbing a ladder to reach an even higher vantage point. He is awestruck by the battle of two Zapdos’, eyes frantic.

Lawrence: Two Zapdos! I must make the second one mine!

Ian, Wyatt and their Pokémon come out of the lower level, seeing Lawrence climbing up. Pelipper circles around, with Dragonite hot on her tail. Ian looks at Charizard, nodding to it. Charizard roars aggressively as it takes flight, breathing a Heat Wave after Dragonite. Dragonite does a barrel roll to dodge, Charizard now cutting it off from Pelipper. 

Piplup climbs onto Ian’s shoulder while Togedemaru makes it onto Wyatt’s, as they climb up the ladder after Lawrence. They make it up, Lawrence standing alongside Tyranitar. Tyranitar fires Hyper Beam, as Piplup leaps forward to take it with Whirlpool. Whirlpool breaks as Piplup is blasted back. Ian ducks under Hyper Beam, as Togedemaru spring boards off Wyatt to knock him over. Togedemaru is caught in the Hyper Beam as well while Wyatt hits the ground, tumbling backwards and grabbing onto the ladder to prevent himself from falling off. Piplup and Togedemaru are sent flying to the lower level, landing in another pool. The two are weak as Piplup helps Togedemaru to the edge of the pool.

Wyatt: Whew! At least they’re alright.

Lawrence: You don’t even comprehend it, do you? I have always been stronger than you! My Pokémon are so far beyond anything you have! Shadow gave me Pokémon that I don’t have to command, but can destroy my enemies all on their own!

Ian: That’s your biggest weakness. Without you commanding your Pokémon, their tactics and adaptability go down. We are able to outmaneuver and outclass them. 

Wyatt: That’s right. We work together with our Pokémon to become stronger than we are alone. 

Lawrence: Ha! Such a pitiful view on battle! Only the strong win! Tyranitar! Pachirisu! Take them out!

Pachirisu runs forward, as Tyranitar whips up a sandstorm with Sand Stream. Ian and Wyatt draw Pokéballs, throwing them and choosing Lucario and Shiinotic.

Zapdos and Ditto Zapdos clash repeatedly with Steel Wing, it looking even. Tito and Rosa look worried, as Pelipper circles around, landing and letting Marshadow out of its bill. 

Marshadow: Mar!

Tito: OH! My island deity!

Tito lifts Marshadow out of Pelipper’s bill, looking sternly.

Tito: It is time. To use the power that you bestowed onto my ancestors, that has now made its way to me. The sacred dance of Shamouti Island!

Marshadow: (Willing and ready) Mar!

Tito: Rosa, recall Ditto. We need Zapdos coming directly at us for this to work. 

Rosa: (Baffled) Are you guys crazy?! Why is no one else on this boat sane?! Ditto, come back!

Ditto Zapdos circles back around, Zapdos giving chase. Tito and Marshadow stand on the landing platform from before, taking a stance. Tito reaches into his pocket, pulling out a grey band with a turquoise crystal on it. Marshadow’s helmet turns green with yellow fringes.

Tito: HERE WE GO! Z-POWER! SOUL STEALING 7 STAR STRIKE!

The Z-Crystal glows, as Tito and Marshadow engage in synchronized moves. Tito motions like a creeping ghost, as Marshadow now radiates a powerful aura. Crystal, Melody and Mismagius arrive on a level above them, perplexed by what’s happening. 

Melody: Is that, the legendary move? Since when can Tito wield it?!

Ditto Zapdos reverts to Ditto, landing in Rosa’s arms as she hightails it out of the way. Marshadow’s eyes open while ablaze, as seven star lights form in front of it, forming a slanted line and a Z. Zapdos is about to pass the stars when Marshadow blasts forward right in front of it. Marshadow unleashes a combo of seven punches and kicks in that patter, shadow energy shooting through Zapdos with each blow and out the other side. Marshadow initiates the last kick, creating a powerful explosion that shakes the cruiser. Everyone is forced to hold on brace themselves to retain their balance.

Zapdos flips and crashes into the railing, then at the landing pad. Tito scurries out of the way, wheezing a bit afterwards. Zapdos lies defeated, cawing weakly. Marshadow powers down, now floating over the middle of open ocean. Pelipper swoops in and catches it, bringing it back to the cruiser.

Melody: They could do that the entire time?!

Crystal looks amazed, then hears roaring above them. She turns to look up, Dragonite striking Charizard with Aqua Tail. Crystal then turns to Mismagius.

Crystal: Help Charizard out.

Mismagius nods its head, disappearing in a portal for Phantom Force. Charizard begins to falter, dropping down a bit before recovering. Dragonite has a smug smile as if it’s won, when Charizard glows with an orange aura for Blaze. Charizard covers itself in blue flames, preparing to use Blast Burn. 

Dragonite: Dra GON!

Dragonite prepares and fires Hyper Beam, as Mismagius appears out of Phantom Force. Mismagius takes the brunt of Hyper Beam, being unharmed. It then lets out a Screech, angering Dragonite. It flies forward with Dragon Claw, Mismagius disappearing with Phantom Force. Blast Burn is right on top of Dragonite, it freaking out as it is enveloped by the attack. Dragonite drops as Mismagius rams it from behind with Phantom Force. It falls into the ocean, Shadow spotting this. 

Shadow: Tsk. This battle is getting too drawn out. Gyarados! We’re done!

Gyarados dives into the ocean, as Shadow jumps over the railing and lands on its head. Dragonite surfaces belly up, as Shadow returns it. A loud caw occurs, as Zapdos flies away from the cruiser.

Shadow: So it’s finally fed up with all of this. Gyarados, pursue.

Gyarados growls in a quizzing manner, but begins to swim after it. Shadow strokes its head.

Shadow: Whatever their game is, they have won today. We cannot fall with Lawrence. Our goal is to important to fall with him.

Lawrence howls furiously, peering over the side to see Zapdos flying in retreat.

Lawrence: NO! You pathetic Pokémon! You belong to me!

Tyranitar charges forward with Crunch at Lucario, who prepares herself. Ian is focused, nodding at Wyatt.

Wyatt: Shiinotic! Strength Sap!

Shiinotic glows silver, with energy roots slamming into Tyranitar and draining its strength. Lucario forms and fires Aura Sphere, blasting Tyranitar back. Pachirisu charges at Shiinotic, tail glowing like iron for Iron Tail. Wyatt turns and nods to Ian.

Ian: Lucario, Me First!

Wyatt: And Shiinotic, follow up with Spore!

Lucario appears over Pachirisu, glowing with a violet aura before forming her own Iron Tail. The attack pins Pachirisu to the ground as Shiinotic releases Spore, putting him to sleep.

Ian: You know, it would’ve helped if you put Zapdos in a Pokéball instead of just bending it to your will. Pokémon get fed up eventually.

Lawrence: (Delusional) IT’S ALRIGHT! Shadow is chasing it down as we speak! He’ll catch it for certain this time, and then you shall be sorry!

Wyatt: Dude, do you not get it? You’ve lost.

Lawrence: Never! Tyranitar, Earthquake!

Tyranitar stomps the ground, releasing an Earthquake. The towered section of the cruiser they are on begins to buckle, as the attack defeats Pachirisu and injures Lucario and Shiinotic. The tower slants down, with Ian, Wyatt and their Pokémon begin sliding backwards. 

Piplup: PIPLUP!

Piplup from the lower level forms a Whirlpool vortex, slamming into the falling tower and keeping it in place. Togedemaru is cheering Piplup on. Ian returns Lucario, as he turns to let himself slide down.

Wyatt: Is he serious?! Oh, right! Shiinotic, return!

Wyatt returns Shiinotic, as he slides after Ian. The two fall off the tower, Charizard catching the two of them and flying off. Lawrence clings to Tyranitar as it jumps off the side, using its claws to descend down the side. Pachirisu slides towards the edge out cold, when Mismagius appears and grabs it, taking it away. Togedemaru sees Tyranitar’s descent, as it charges over there, spinning like a top with a silver ring for Gyro Ball. Tyranitar lands, Togedemaru striking with Gyro Ball that knocks Lawrence off Tyranitar’s back.

Lawrence: OOF! How dare you! Tyranitar, claim this Pokémon for me!

Tyranitar goes to Crunch into Togedemaru, as Togedemaru extends its spikes. Its body glows green with the spikes covered by exaggerated energy spikes, that impale Tyranitar as it tries to Crunch down. Tyranitar howls in pain, as Togedemaru looks smug.

Togedemaru: Toge!

Charizard drops Wyatt off by Togedemaru as it flies around, Ian swooping Piplup off the ground. The tower falls over and crashes, causing part of the interior section to crumble. 

Wyatt: Togedemaru, nice shot with that Spiky Shield! Finish it with Gyro Ball!

Lawrence: Hyper Beam!

Tyranitar prepares to fire Hyper Beam, when it is hit by Hydro Pump from behind. It turns, firing Hyper Beam after Pelipper. Togedemaru strikes Tyranitar with Gyro Ball, it falling over defeated. Mismagius appears, dropping Pachirisu off at Lawrence’s feet. His face turns a ghostly white, the realization sinking in. 

Lawrence: No. NO!

Lawrence runs and retreats, Wyatt and Togedemaru looking proud. Lawrence heads to the life boats, which are on fire. Charizard flies over the edge, Ian and Piplup on it.

Ian: Relax, Lawrence. We are almost to port.

Lawrence: Port?!

The sun rises in the distance, as an island is on the horizon. At the dock is a battalion of police officers and inspectors. Lawrence chuckles as if impressed.

Lawrence: You’re actually trying to get me arrested. (Turns to Ian) You’ve done that once already, and look where that got you.

Ian: I would suggest that you show Officer Jenny around. I’d hate for you to get arrested for not complying. Be sure to show off your collection. I know how you love to do that. 

Charizard flies away from the ship, Lawrence scowling. Pelipper flies after him as Lawrence heads to the loading dock. 

The ship makes port and the ramp is lowered, Officer Jenny leading the charge of officers. Lawrence has regained his cool, looking compliant.

Lawrence: Hello Officer. What seems to be the problem?

Jenny: Lawrence III. We received a tip that you are illegally transporting Pokémon.

Lawrence: I can assure you that all the Pokémon aboard this ship are my own. Would you like to see them?

Jenny: After you.

Lawrence leads the officers to the hallway of his collection, going to a secret panel in the wall. He pulls out a ledger, handing it to Officer Jenny.

Lawrence: My dossier. This is a record of all the Pokémon here, that I caught on my recent visit to the Alola region.

The officers check the cages, while Officer Jenny flips through the pages. She looks unamused.

Jenny: Any reason they are in cages? 

Lawrence: Would you say it’s more humane to keep them in Pokéballs? This is only a temporary situation. I plan on bringing them into a reserve where they can roam the wide open spaces.

Officer: Jenny! We’ve found it!

Lawrence: “It?”

Lawrence looks confused, Officer Jenny cracking a victorious smile. Lawrence rushes to where the officer was, with Marshadow in the cage where Phione was in earlier.

Marshadow: Mar.

Lawrence: (Baffled) What?! I, impossible!

Jenny: (Condescendingly) I agree. According to your dossier, you had a Phione in this cage.

Lawrence looks terrified, as Officer Jenny pulls out a pair of handcuffs. 

Jenny: And according to island law, you are in illegal possession of an island deity. You are to be held here and to suffer the penalties set by Shamouti Island. You are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent.

Officer Jenny handcuffs Lawrence, as two officers struggle to drag the fighting Lawrence off.

Lawrence: No, no! I’ve been set up! That isn’t a real Marshadow! It’s a fake!

Jenny: (Gets on walkie talkie) Lower the cage for Marshadow. 

Kidd: (On walkie talkie) Number? 

Jenny: Cage 802.

The energy cage fades, as Marshadow looks around. It then fades into shadows, disappearing. Around the corner is Rosa, where Marshadow goes to. It reverts into Ditto, hopping onto Rosa’s shoulder. She giggles proudly as she sneaks her way off.

Ian, Piplup, Charizard and Pelipper make it back to Shamouti Island, landing in the shadows. Pelipper opens her bill, letting Marshadow out.

Marshadow: Mar! Mar!

Ian: There you go. No one will ever know.

Marshadow: Mar, shadow!

End Scene

Ian, Crystal, Wyatt, Rosa, Tito and Melody are at the Pokémon Center of Shamouti Island, partially in the shadows so Marshadow can be there as well.

Wyatt: So, what now?

Ian: We’re heading back to Pallet Town.

Crystal: It is, (exhales deeply) home. 

Tito: It’s just like the island saying. “Home is where family is.”

Melody: Oh, come on. You just made that up. 

Tito: Fine, fine.

Marshadow giggles, as Crystal looks to Wyatt and Rosa.

Crystal: Where’s home for you guys?

Rosa: We had been talking about visiting Alola, so I think we’re finally going to make our way there.

Wyatt: You guys should totally come with us! We can show you around! It’ll be fun!

Crystal: I would love to go to Alola! What do you say, Ian?

Ian: That sounds like…

The Pokémon Theme plays, Ian pulling out his phone. He answers his phone, walking off. Crystal bends down, petting Marshadow.

Crystal: It was so fun to meet you, Marshadow! I hope we get to meet again someday.

Marshadow: Mar!  

Crystal gives Marshadow a fist bump, as Marshadow backs into the shadows. It fades away, Crystal waving at it.

Gyarados flies through the air, dodging Zapdos’ Discharge attack. Zapdos is exhausted as Gyarados uses Brutal Swing, Zapdos using Detect to dodge it. Zapdos appears right by Gyarados’ head, biting into Zapdos with Ice Fang. Zapdos lets out a cry of pain as it falls and crashes into the ocean. Gyarados flies down and lands in the ocean, as Shadow tosses an Ultra Ball at Zapdos. Zapdos is hit and sucked into the Ultra Ball. The Ultra Ball shakes as it splashes into the water, locking. Gyarados lowers its head so Shadow can pick it up.

Shadow: This will help me set up for my own mission now.

Voice: Impressive.

Shadow turns, as Domino riding Seaking approach them. Floating alongside her is Lawrence’s Malamar.

Malamar: Malamar.

Shadow: (At Malamar) So, you abandoned him.

Domino: You have a very impressive record, Zero. (Shadow scowls at this) It was actually quite hard to dig up background on you. The boy from the Mixas desert who supposedly came from a hole in the sky.

Shadow: (Irritated) The fact you used that name means this conversation is over.

Domino: Oh, I apologize. I can understand your feelings. I too go by an alias. Do you know exactly what happened to your old boss?

Shadow: “Old?” I assume he was arrested.

Malamar: (Nods) Mala mala.

Shadow: You fled before that even happened. Don’t talk as if you know what happened, coward.

Malamar chirps angrily, but Domino snaps her fingers. Malamar timidly backs down.

Domino: Yes, he was arrested. Ian executed a masterful plan.

Shadow: Which means I’m truly unemployed.

Domino: Which is why I’m here. I am in charge of hiring new recruits, and you fit my preferences to a tee. Cold, devious, able to think for himself.

Shadow: (Intrigued) Join Team Rocket? Do you need proof of skill? 

Domino: Oh, that Zapdos will be more than enough.

Shadow looks at the Ultra Ball, as if contemplating his options. He then tosses it to Domino, her grinning as she catches it.

Shadow: What’s my first job, boss?

Domino: Did you ever manage to find the Azure Flute?

Shadow: No. I had to go back to work. I was going to search for it in my current state of unemployment.

Domino: Well we shall pay you handsomely for it. And any Plates of Arceus that you manage to find.

Shadow grins at that, as he pulls out the Fist Plate. 

Domino: (Impressed) I definetely picked a winner.

Trivia

• This episode marks the end of the Collector Saga.
• Ian and Crystal only use 4 Pokémon each this episode. That is all the Pokémon they have on hand, and is setting up for the next series.
• Charizard learning Blast Burn was originally going to be the beginning of the next series. However, I put it here so they had a reason to be traveling in this area.
• Tito was inspired by the character of the same name and similar appearance from the Nickelodeon show Rocket Power. This is where the idea of his sayings come from, as Tito always had "ancient Hawaiian sayings."
• Melody was based off the character that appeared in Pokémon the Movie 2000. I had been trying to figure out how to include her for a long time.
• This episode's focus on Alola Pokémon was due to the limited number of them that had been appearing in the series, since Wyatt and Rosa were the only ones to have them.
  • This was written before some of the crossover specials done during PT:D, which featured more Alola Pokémon.
• Lawrence had never heard of the Alola region before Shadow brought him the Wishiwashi from Under the Coast.
• The cruise ship's name, the S.S. Tivan, is named after the Collector that appears in the MCU. This character was the inspiration for the Collector Saga, so it is only fitting it is mentioned in its last episode.
• I originally had planned for Kay to appear instead of Kidd. After working through the plot, it was decided that Kidd was a better fit for the cloak and dagger role that she served.
• The Captain was based off the Captain who was featured in the anime episode A Shipful of Shivers, who had become the Orange League Champion. He is given Dhelmise to fit the Alola theme.
• This episode features the first usage of Z-Moves in the main series and not in crossovers. It was Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike.
• When Kay was considered for the movie, the main legendary Pokémon was Lunala instead of Marshadow. This changed following the movie Pokémon: I choose you! which featured Marshadow.
• It's revealed that Zapdos never had a Pokéball up until this episode.
• Shadow's strength is highlighted, able to match 7 trainers at once, one of them including Ian, with his 6 Pokémon.
• Domino reveals that she's specifically in charge of recruiting for the new Team Rocket. This explains why she recruited Brodie and the Team Galactic Admins herself.
• Domino references Shadow's/Zero's past, "the boy who supposedly came from a hole in the sky." This hole is a reference to an Ultra Wormhole.
