Max is a character of Pokémon Tales, debuting in Pokémon Tales: Brendan as a travel companion. He is based off his anime counterpart. He is the son of Norman and younger brother of Brendan. He returns as a travel companion and a trainer in Pokémon Tales: Orre. He returns as the star character of Pokémon Tales: Max.

History

Max is the youngest son of the gym leader Norman, and spends his time studying Pokémon to become a powerful trainer like his dad. He has an older brother, Brendan, that ran away from home to participate in Pokémon Contests.

He first meets Ian pretending to be the gym leader, but is quickly found out. Norman recruits Ian to find Brendan and bring him home, in exchange for a gym battle. Ian agrees, but requests Max come with him, to ensure he finds the right person. Norman begrudgingly accepts, as Max is excited to go on a journey.

Due to not being old enough to be a trainer, he serves a role of providing information when it is needed. He constantly teases his brother Brendan and tries to help him be a better trainer, but they also constantly argue. Along the journey, Max befriended a Ralts and promised to go back for it when it was time to start his journey. He fulfills this promise, with Ralts becoming his first Pokémon upon starting his journey.

Before officially starting his journey, he goes to Orre to watch his father compete in the gym leader tournament in Orre. At the event, Team Snagem attacks, which steals his Ralts from him and turns it into a Shadow Pokémon. This leaves him depressed and joins Ian, Brendan and Crystal into getting all the stolen Pokémon back.

Following this, he spent a year at the Prestigious Gym training under Justy, Ian's mentor. Once Ian became champion of Unova, Max decided he couldn't wait any longer and set out for the Kalos region to begin his own journey.
