Ben Tennyson is one of the main characters of Pokémon Tales: Ben 10, a spin-off series in the Pokémon Tales franchise. The other main character is his cousin Gwen Tennyson.

History

Ben is a trainer from Vaniville Town, where he, along with his cousin Gwen, set off on a Pokémon journey. Upon arriving in Aquacorde Town, they find Trevor, the assistant to Professor Sycamore, has been robbed of a starter Pokémon. Ben goes and chases the thief, named Kevin, trying to get the Pokémon back. He loses, and Kevin escapes.

Ben's goal is to become a Pokémon Master, and is quite gifted in catching Pokémon. By the end of his first episode, he had used up all his initial Pokéballs, giving him a total of 6 Pokémon (while only three are shown on screen at that time)

• He is based off the title character from the Ben 10 series.

• On his debut, he was 11. He had turned 12 by the time he won the Kalos League, as stated in Vs. Donphan.
• All of his main Pokémon will be nicknamed after his aliens from his original series. The number of Pokémon he's obtained based off aliens from his series are as follows:
  • Ben 10: 18 out of 22 aliens are represented. 8 of them consist of his "Original 10."
  • Alien Force: 10 out of 13 aliens are represented. 8 of him consist of his "New Original 10."
  • Ultimate Alien: 8 out of 11 aliens are represented.
  • Omniverse: 13 out of 16 aliens are represented.
  • Reboot: 2 out of 5 aliens are represented. This is due to them being newer and Ben's story and Pokémon being established long ago.
• It will be common for him to use Pokémon he obtained offscreen much later than their initial capture.
• Ben is one of the first main characters to retrieve a starter Pokémon from a regional professor in Pokémon Tales, as only rival characters had received them before. The other one is Gwen.

• Ben's debut series appeared in Gen VI. If he had debuted later, the following Pokémon species would be different;
  • Rath would be Incineroar, being a tiger based Pokémon that loves fighting.
  • Toepick would by Mimikyu, as if you look under its cloak you are horrified.
  • Bloxx would be Stakataka, as it is made of blocks.
  • Alien X would not have been Unown, as the species would've been used for Surge.
  • Spidermonkey may have been Passimian, as it is able to learn Electro Web by move tutor.
  • Brainstorm would have been Orbeetle, as its large head resembles Brainstorm's, it is a Psychic type and the rest of its body isn't designed for physical attacks.
  • Swampfire would have been Scovillain, the first Grass/Fire combo.
• Ben's Mega Evolution catchphrase is, "It's Mega time!" His catchphrase in using Terastalization is "It's Tera time!"
• Ben is the first main character to have access to more than one power up. He has used Mega Evolution and Terastalization.
