With the Squirtle Squad[]

In Surge of Power, Wartortle saved Emerald and Leaf to repay its "debt" towards Emerald. It takes the two to the Pokémon Center cabin, seeking to tell them Lt. Surge's disloyalty to Kanto. It'd later appear, assisting Emerald in his gym battle against Lt. Surge despite not belonging to him. Wartortle battled Electabuzz again, being the very one loaned to Ken. Wartortle would draw against Electabuzz. It'd be officially caught at the end of the episode, its Pokédex information being scanned.

Trivia[]
- Unlike Emerald's Charmander and Bulbasaur, Wartortle is not caught in its basic stage and inspired by Ash's from the anime.
- Its cracked shell is, from a storytelling perspective, to keep Wartortle reasonably within the rest of Emerald's team in terms of power.
- As of its capture, it is slightly above Beedrill in power, but is rusty.
- Initially Wartortle would've been a baby Squirtle, albeit with a mischievous streak similar to Gold's Togebo and Pibu from the Adventures manga. This would've been a combination of two notable Squirtle from the anime, May's and Ash's.
