Fuji is a Bulbasaur owned by Emerald. She is the second Pokémon owned by Emerald, having belonged to Professor Oak prior to Made for Victory.

Personality & Characteristics[]

Fuji is defined by her cynicism, being distrusting towards trainers that she doesn't personally know. This is seen when she refuses orders from Emerald in Made for Victory, until she was pushed into a situation where she had to. She acts with her own agency and is stubborn during battles, using moves not commanded to, typically when frustrated with another Pokémon attacking her.

Despite this cynical viewpoint of humans, she gets along with Pokémon. Due to having been raised under Professor Oak, she acts as a caretaker to Pokémon that are injured or younger than her, such as Emerald's Luma who she's seen to have a close relationship with.

As of Blind Fury, she's been more obedient, listening in battle. Due to her stubbornness, she still acts against Emerald when she feels necessary, however she partakes in battles now.

To Be a Master: Indigo League[]

Bulbasaur debuted in Made for Victory, first being seen in a Pokéball at the Professor Institute. She fled to a construction lot, where Team Rocket member Ken attempted to capture it. With Emerald's assistance, she learned Seed Bomb to defeat the Ken's Ekans.

In Perfect Love, Bulbasaur was in the midst of battling AJ's Sandshrew, however she did not respond to Emerald's commands. She battled in response to a Fury Cutter attack and then went back to loafing around, losing as a result. She later learned Sleep Powder, off-screen, in case she had to put Charmander to sleep. This was not necessary, although it came in useful for battling Damian and Ken where she put aside her stubbornness due to the severity of the situation.

Bulbasaur appears in the crossover Crisis Across the Multiverse, using Sleep Powder to put her opponents to sleep alongside Violet's Oricorio (via Mirror Move) and Wyatt's Gliscor (via Sandstorm to push the Sleep Powder further). She later appears with Peter's Butterfree, putting Pokémon to sleep. She cameos later on with Scott's Venusaur, using their vines to sweep the dust.

In Wanted!, she's sent out to tame Electabuzz twice. She does not obey Emerald, not realizing the scope of the battle.

In Surge of Power, she cameos, happy over the gym battle but trying to hide it.

In Fight for Honor, she battles Gary's Spearow, disobeying Emerald. After loafing around a lot, she loses to Spearow.

In Time Heals, Bulbasaur creates jump ropes with her vines to play with Leaf's Poliwag, a Poliwag, and Doduo. Mr. Fuji has Emerald call her over, and inspects it, revealing that she's disobedient due to exposure to bad humans.

In Blaze of Honor, she cameos alongside Khoury's Kangaskhan, playing with Leaf's Oddish and Leaf's Zubat.

In Winner Takes All, she helps Emerald get ahead of competitors in the Miracle Cycle Bicycle Race with her Vine Whip attack, however she takes advantage of this mischievously. She later appears helping heal a baby Meowth's injury.

In Corner Royale, Bulbasaur is used alongside Luma and Wartortle to battle Gold's Pokémon. She sucks in toxic fumes from Arbok's Acid Spray, allowing her to learn Poison Powder to defeat her Raticate.

In Blind Fury, Bulbasaur first cameos lying lazily next to Luma. She battles against a Mankey (later identified to be Mizaru) when it steals her food. She struggles to keep up with Mizaru, however after some strategizing and learning Energy Ball, she manages to defeat it. Bulbasaur receives the nickname Fuji.

In Psychic Readings, Fuji is sent out along with the rest of Emerald's team. Later in the episode, she helps Emerald resist against Mr. Psychic's aura abilities.
